No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

VorpX does indeed work with other titles, such as Fallout, Skyrim, Metro and many more.

From personal experience ;)

Ohh wait, I remember trying this weeks back and could never get it to "hook" even after following Hooper on YT's suggestions. I am going to be persistent.

My theory :

I think it's just a bug. :(

If you complete the question on the sundial thing, you will notice that a flare fires up and explodes but you are too close to see the full effect and the window is enveloped at the time. I think this is the same flare .
It occurred the first time i logged in today, but obviously i missed it as i wasn't expecting it, so i thought i would quit and log back in and it happened again ( about 10 secs after the start ) so i was able to screenshot it. I want to believe it is something cryptic and deliberate - but i was able to re-create it twice - and both times i didn't interact with the Monolith

It would be a strange bug if it works every time. My take on it is how using it as a fly over mechanic works exactly as intended. Normally you would board your ship and aim to follow the direction it sets and if you accidentally fly too far it pops a flare to say "hey over here"
so you don't miss it. The flare pops up every time if you fly away far enough and come back.

Its the same for me. I wonder if it leads anywhere. It seems to tell a story (as do the abandoned stations) if you can follow it.

They seem very uncharacteristic to in-person meetings with the Gek. Then if you solve the Gek monolith clues, they always seem to EMPHASIZE violence but the solution is the weakest option. Lots of dead apparitions too. Something doesn't add up and it's definitely intentional.

Glad I held off buying this, the idea was there but the execution wasn't.

No one should have believed they'd deliver what they were claiming with a team of 15-20 people. In the early days it was just 4 people wasn't it? And Sean Murray proudly stated this as if it was something to be impressed by

I'm in 2 minds refund wise - I kind of want to see developers pushing out the box and doing stuff like this (but better) and there is plenty of potential there for some really good stuff if they opened it up to modders properly on the flipside the gameplay as is kind of takes the mick.

Don't forget that the massive hype this game(the promised game) got will encourage other developers, and a mass of refunds will further encourage them to make the game promised, not copies of this game which has none of the elements to make it actually good inside it.

So personally I wouldn't hesitate on that thinking, it's just as important to show devs how not to behave. If you don't refund, you're somewhat saying to future devs, lie to me, promise the world, overcharge me and I'll probably not bother refunding.

The success of the game in terms of sales currently(and sales vs size of team and cost to produce) shows other devs that lying about their game is financially worthwhile.

Yes but I keep hearing rumblings about a lawsuit gathering pace in the US... reading various forums, there are plenty of people galvanizing around that idea, and if this goes the way of the Nvidia 970 one then it will give developers pause for thought about trying these apparent bait and switch tactics again.

Only if it actually manages to be financially punitive, which is rarely the case. Otherwise it's just more free advertising. The problem with pre-ordering, even with a refund option, is that you try to convince yourself you were right, that you weren't had, that you're not a weak willed gullible fool :D

And then you jump on the forums and try to convince everyone else ;)

Still, wouldn't surprise me if it happens. Most people thought the suggestion of it happening with the 970 was a joke. I don't think it would be free advertising though... not in light of the bashing it's had. The drop off in players is testament to that also. Personally though, I've got my money's worth... over 40 hours in and I'm not stopping yet.

This tbh, I was skeptical about this game from the beginning but it was down to whether they could pull it off or not. Turns out they just downright lied about most things that were in the game. As said before, I'm glad I held off buying it.

How many hours played?

4762 hours :p

I think people with like 15 hours have had a refund but I think guys playing for like 30hours + are going to still be a hard sell.

I think it's a case of Sony basically never give a refund if a game is downloaded, not even played, Amazon don't refund digital games normally and Steam rarely do after the 2 hour limit. So two of those who basically never do are doing so now and I think Steam are effectively saying we get that with this game 2 hours isn't enough, but if you played for absolutely ages, screw you.

If nothing is included that was used to push the game so people would buy it then it doesn't matter how many hours you've played you should be entitled to a refund.

How many hours played?

17 on first 2 days, not played since. I was trying and trying to find something good about the game but in the end just couldn't.

I stand by my earlier rants in the thread on release, one of the worst games ever launched, everything about it stinks of amateur hour.

To be fair I find it quite relaxing with the low flight mod just to drift around low over the planets - kind of tainted though when you realise how fake it all is and that if you go very far or fly out the atmosphere and back everything you were just flying around or had found will be completely different and if you somehow got back to the same "spot" on the planet it would look nothing like when you were there before.

i've seen everything it has to offer and erm.... I'm bored and theres literally nothing new.

3rd refund ticket raised...

exactly as i said it'd be like before release. it's similar to minecraft in that it's all procedurally generated, and there are so many variations of planets you'll never visit them all, however if minecraft had it that when you went over a mountain, everything you'd ever done was reset, no one would play that game. this game actually does that, with less to do in the first place.

i think the idea of this massive open universe is fantastic, i love the way it all links together and feels almost symless jumping into your ship then pointing up and flying off for a new adventure, in fact i think that idea if done right would be my all time favourite style of game to play, however i just wish there was more to it.

i really hoped this would be put out like minecraft with a constant stream of free updates, enhancing the game month after month, however i don't get the feeling that is the route hello games will be taking. with 1/2 years of development and mods this framework they've created could be one of the best games ever made. at the moment it's one of the most disappointing.
