No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Deus Ex Mankind Divided is 10 quid less on GMG, it's far superior and came out after NMS. Crazy.

Tbh, most of these 'eye candy' screenshots of NMS scenery or space look pretty naff to me, more like a PS3 game. Compare the scenery shots to The Witcher 3 or Skyrim and the space shots to Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen. Not even close.

In fact the space shots remind me of Homeworld and look like the same quality too, with all the bright colours and that came out in 1999 lol!

Yeah they're pretty mediocre. Eye candy is not a selling point for NMS.

So many complaints about this game. Missing content, bugs, performance issues and even just disappointment in the gameplay itself.

Glad I didn't buy this for £40! Maybe will pick it out of the bargain bin for a fiver someday.

Game is missing like 90% of it's content, there is nothing to do other then fly around and mine.

On the other hand, there is Empyrion on Steam which is 100x better.

NMS - From 200,000 active players to 15,000 active players in one week.

I think that speaks to a theoretically almost infinite world that actually has very little content and weak game play.

It had soooo much promise too.

Yup, if they really wanted to prove how much it was Sony's fault they could have delayed the PC release and proven how good the game really was.

You're probably right, I'm just saying we can't be 100% sure. We don't and may never know what contracts were in place with Sony & iam8bit. Hello Games may well have genuinely planned all the stuff then realised they didn't have the budget to do it and had to ship it in its current state for their own financial reasons, which of course would be their own fault. Um. I guess I'm just reluctant to 100% write off an individual when there is an element of doubt that it was his fault in my mind but I certainly have no problems in laying huge dollops of criticism on Hello Games and how NMS has been released. If that makes sense.

Where's Sean Murray in all of this? Seems to have disappeared into the shadows. I could be wrong though, I don't own the game but I'm trying to keep up to date with the controversy. :p

Checked his Twitter. No tweets since the 18th August.

To be fair he seems to have been quite busy sorting out release issues, etc. there has been another patch just released so it isn't like they've dropped the game and run entirely.

If I was Sean, I would have taken a holiday after release of NMS. Sensibly, I think that the first job would be to fix bugs and get the game much more optimized.
Secondly, if Hello Games are a small development team, I would use the money profited from the pre-sales and release, and hire some coders to help implement the 'missing' features.
There are some good mods trickling out, especially the one that creates giant landscape features and another for low flying. I would look at including these as optional features in the next update.
Finally, I would like to see more components to the game, such as ability to capture and fortify an outpost. Or even allow you to build your own homes on planets that you like. The game has lots of lovely caves and stuff, why not have scary monsters come out at night? How about having a mothership that sits in the planet's atmoshpere, so you can have your own sentinels transport minerals up to space for larger cargo storage...
In short, this game is beautiful to look at and has its short-comings, but I believe that there is potential to expand the game for the better. I hope Sean sticks with it for a while longer..

That would be great, hire a bigger team, add features like mega flora & fauna, low flying, flight stick control. Proper day/night cycles based on planetary orbit, ships with different characteristics based on their roles, etc. Stuff they said was in the game to start with.

Maybe add a more engaging story with npc's that do things instead of just stand there.

Seriously, has anyone actually checked he hasn't topped himself?

I don't get it, how is it not illegal to continue to sell a product with a video that clearly hasn't made it to the final product?

Surely this would be a slam-dunk Class action?

I have to admit, this made me laugh:

Incidentally, this was a good read:

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who is passionate about the game, despite the controversy.

Hahaha, illegal. You're acting like this is the first software product to do this. Talk of lawsuits is just stupid, all you need to do is not buy the game or wait for reviews, watch videos, streams etc. It's not like we can't be too well informed nowadays.

I don't understand why so many people are up in arms about this; no -one MADE anyone buy the game. Were expectations so high that people's dreams were crushed when they didn't get exactly what they were promised? It's your own fault if you accept all the marketing that's beamed into your face. Marketing over-selling a product, who'd have thunk it...

^ Totally agree with how the marketing machine works but with NMS it is a bit different. Whereas other games in the past have been hyped up massively but released with - as an example - the usual downgraded graphics shenanigans devs always pull, the NMS dev - Sean Murray - straight faced lied about features in the game.

"Does the game have multiplayer, yes or no"?
"Yes"

Lie, it does not have multiplayer at all. So this along with other missing features has enraged paying customers and rightfully so imo. #Refund-gate.
