No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

Haven't actually played it a great deal since launch been looking at a lot of videos recently and today the update came out. Seems quite a lot has been changed and many more aspects updated/added. Think i will give it another try. Did enjoy it at launch but it just felt a bit empty in terms of things you could actually do. Looks a lot better now however. Just updating.

So whats the verdict then, Hello Games and Sean Murray redeemed themselves? Game got decent content and worth a buy now?

I was going to say yes having given it a quick go, however i've just had a few hours on it and am left feeling while the content is fleshed out a bit its basically the same.

Theres more minerals and stuff to find, but its the same old mining and grinding experience.

Inventory space is still frustrating, as now theres far more materials but only the same amount of space to keep them.

While its pretty, the changes are superficial and I still feel the game is incredibly shallow.

Closer to what it should have been, still not as good looking as the trailers and still doesnt make up for the lies and slow progress. I would rather have waited 2 years for it to be in this state.

Oh should say i havent tried the multiplayer aspect yet, but whats the point? Just makes the grinding slightly quicker, no challenge involved in the game

Permadeath mode??

If you're early game you've not even scratched the surface of NEXT. Some ppl just can't get past the history of NMS, refuse to give credit to forward progress and cant get past grind making it a rubbish game no matter what....you probably fall in there somewhere mate.

I'm loving it. Such a cool chill out game, massive improvement in pretty much every department. Another solid update.

Have had no issue with eye candy similar to the trailers with everything maxed out

The grind I agree with it could be cut down a bit as having to keep making fuel cells and oxygen cells and sodium nitrate gets a bit OTT but that could be an easy fix of just giving more takeoffs per cell and reduce the time it takes for oxygen and hazard shield to tick down

For £16 I paid I can't complain, I'm enjoying it so far

I have the experimental patch on..... I was out looking around (from the starting location) and came back to find my little ship about 20 feet in the air and though I can get to it, it's a bit odd so any ideas on what to do other than enjoy the view :) ?

I'd like to think not, it is without doubt better than on release, and I get the grinding is part of the game, which to a certain extent I do enjoy.

That being said, theres no actual content, the 'lore' of the game is still as awful as it always has been. I've done 3 quests tonight for the NPC's, all of them go and scan 4 different types of plants. The entire lore system is based on fetch quests and hasn't been developed.

All the space stations still the exact same layout, except instead of being one room is now two areas, as I've said its an improvement but.... once youve seen one youve seen all of them.

I'm honestly trying to look at it from a brand new perspective, forgetting the shower of **** that came out in 2016 and treating it as a new game, and still the beauty is only skin deep. There is literally no point to the game whatsoever apart from just looking at different procedurally generated plants and animals

I'll agree with you that its a good chill out game, I still love the art style and the atmosphere and thats why i've been playing all afternoon and evening, and its only after quitting I've realised that nothing I have done in the game actually means anything. For me or the game.

It is quite amazing to see this as a global top seller again and with the recent reviews now mostly positive and the overall reviews having shifted from mostly negative to mixed.

If it has enough launch fuel you should be able to summon it to you?

I understand that.

Whilst I'm sure I'll enjoy it for a few days, I can't see me sticking around as there's no actual point to it... it does feel rather skin deep.

Also, the optimisation is dire.

My CPU and GPU aren't being utilised and no matter my graphics settings, 30pfs is about all I get on land. One upside is the machine remains silent, no fans spin up. Not sure a game has ever achieved that before.

Performance wise, new game and only at the start, I seem to be getting a solid 60fps, on high settings at 1440p.

So far it seems fun enough, as it was when I played it with the Atlas Rising patch. Superficial perhaps but a nice chill out game :)

Yup, performance is much improved for me. 30-40 FPS more. Cpu is getting killed though.
