No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

@CHokKA yeah same experience for me with performance, and also with the way my first few attempts to start playing went! Oh and those load times, even more infuriating when your forced to restart to try graphic setting changes (that don't seem to improve matters in the slightest!

It's a shame as I like what I've managed to play but not sure I can put up with the performance, may give it another try.

I've been searching and looks like people have had these issues for a long time, so I'm not holding out any hope that they'll address then. They should just up their recommended specs and be done.

A nice collection of mods there and I did try some of them but I'm a little concerned being on the Experimental branch as not all mods update that quickly to reflect the latest build, and might not need to, and I'm concerned about the potential to mess up my game. Saying that I am using....

CC Improved Clouds
No Scanlines No Chroma No Vignette
No Blinding Lights
Reduced Launch Cost 5% 1.2

I did use a hover mod, pretty good for opening doors, without sentinels bothering you.

I am tempted to go back to using Fantastic Beasts and try Alien Worlds, from the same author.


Yesterday when I was approaching a planet a freighter appeared out of hyper-drive (or whatever) and stopped right in front of me, entangling my ship up within its own structure. I lost some play time there as I could not move and had to reload my last save.

Got given my first freighter as well, just a 19 slot but at least it was free.

Personally there is nothing wrong with the controls

You use wasd to move around, tab to bring up the inventory, A and D to move between suits/ship etc, Q and d E to move between tech slots, not hard at all and you don't even move your damn hand
 
I don't know what the deal is.
Do habitable planets actually exist?

How can you go 70 hours and not land on something that isn't, Hot/Cold/Irradiated/Toxic.
Even when they get tagged as nice weather or whatever, I get super heated rainstorms....
Where are the Goldilocks planets :confused: Good job my ship is a Prius with the miles I'm doing.

Do these reduce performance significantly? At 1080p I have no problem but at 4K I seem to really lag, shame because the graphics in this game my laptop should handle easilly with a GTX1070.

Have to say since the latest patch I've hardly seen any storms and before they were quite frequent, also my thermal protection lasts loads longer.

Also, how do you get the whispering eggs? I show at one and the glowing egg appears, I jumped on it and it didn't get picked up??

I was excited when I saw a temperate planet.
Landed to threatening sentinels and mostly calm weather.
Then a super heated rainstorm hit, guess it was mostly calm :rolleyes:

Game hates me :D

P.S Glyphs are still bugged, stuck at 1
 
When you fight pirates in space and offered a bonus has anyone found that it can be more by chance if you actually get the bonus when they are destroyed...? I have just destroyed a pirate for 100k - no bonus paid. Then got attacked by 3 or 4 pirates and offered 200k, destroyed those and yet again no bonus paid, just a message now noting me as a "fighter" for destroying 30 starships.
I have in the past seen the message of the bonus being paid, and seen the units difference, but not for a while.


@YoungBlood - you aren't lucky with your planets are you, lol.
Aren't you playing on survival mode or something similar..? Doesn't that change the chances of finding a more temperate world...?

Added Fantastic Beasts and Alien Worlds now, the latter makes so much of a difference when revisiting what was a totally barren planet.

I haven't really noticed if the bonus for killing pirates is coming in. I think sometimes you don't get the onscreen message but maybe it ends up landing in the bank anyway.
To be honest the 100k you get like that soon becomes meaningless, and the pirates become an annoyance for pulling you out of warp.
Saying that you do get some good minerals out of them, so checks and balances I suppose.

Has anyone managed to kill an Elite pirate?
They chew through my shields so fast I have to leg it, as Survival mode means I loose the ship cargo and get a hefty lot of tech to repair If i die.

Yep I'm on survival mode, and surviving, just getting ever so tedious looking for a planet for a base.
Also it's annoying the game pauses when you tab out, some planets can take close to 2 mins to reach, you can do a lot in 2 mins!

yes ive killed 3 pirates in a row and got no bounty paid out as i knew what my balance was as needed some cash for new multi tool.
 
@atomic7431 Thanks for the confirmation. Like you I'm saving up some cash for a multi-tool. Every little helps, or not when the 100k or 200k bonuses are not paid out. I can'rt remember what build it was , I'm on experimental, but it stopped paying out a build or two ago, at least for me.
I'll mention that over in the experimental thread.

@YoungBlood - I take your point about the cash and there can still be more lucrative ways to make money. But at the beginning 100k or 200k really does matter. I reckon that they are really trying to slow, some say nerf, the game down to give meaning to those small changes etc rather than instantly farm or tech build for millions, rendering 100k a meaningless amount.

I do fly through and collect their bonuses the pirates drop but when the screen informs you of a bonus reward of 100k (for harmless) or 200k (for dangerous) then that is what you should get when completed. It used to work consistently for me. Now it is the opposite.

I too find it irritating when you tab out, for some reason even using shift and tab reduces the game when I go to my second monitor. With Cities Skylines I could at least leave the game running on my primary display and watch YT or do something on the second monitor.

The Alien World mod and Fantastic Creatures might help you out with the worlds you visit...?
