No Man's Sky - Procedural space game

If you guys are finding it a grind have you considered playing the creative mode? Basically you can just get in your ship and blast off, you don't have to worry about dying or fixing stuff.

I did use a mod to reduce the cost of the launch, as I did like to hop around the planet a lot to explore. I actually liked it better when they made some of the life on a planet more hostile, when it was nerfed it was way too predictable and tame when you landed, apart from collecting those eggs...!

As previously noted it is just overall confusing for me and lack of clarity and purpose on what the heck I'm supposed to do and what to do it with. There could have been more structure, without necessarily compromising the open game aspect.

For £15 I was happy enough to just play around flying over planets and exploring - relaxing enough for that.

from my early play of it, it has structure and purpose already, have you not checked on the log missions window? you have objectives and stuff to do there!

It is after all a sandbox space game. Do whatever you like!

Does it have online mp now
It does have online MP, but it could definitely do with some more work.

My friend and I have played about 30 hours together so far, and while you can do base building together there isn't much else that you can do together. Rewards/Items/Ships aren't shared for example. May seem obvious but if you find a crashed ship together, only one of you can take it. If you find an S-class rifle in a space station, only one can take it. Same goes for the modules you buy from the vendors. Little things that aren't a massive issue because the game is so big with masses of planets that eventually you'll both get everything you need but they make for a less smooth MP experience in my opinion.

The bigger issues with MP were the bugs of which there were quite a few. One example was my friend and I jumped into a system and a freighter was being attacked so we helped save it, my friend flew in and claimed it as his for free (because it was the first one we had saved). However next time we logged in it had disappeared and never came back, and next time he saved another freighter the only option was to buy it. There were quite a few other things but I won't list them as may be here a while :P

I'm sure they have been ironing out loads of the bugs as they have been very good on that side of things. It's been a couple of months since we played MP so it may well be in a better state but ultimately the main downfall is there isn't a lot you can do together. Missions aren't really shared, rewards and items etc aren't shared. It's kind of MP in the sense you are in the same game as your friend where you can see each other and do basic things together but that's about it.

So is it just coop 2player thats online or can you drum up a little fleet/army of us and do missions/explore together?

It seems that only shared resources is disabled at the moment? Maybe it will be fixed and added soon

2-4 people in one group IIRC.

I forgot that you can do Galactic Commission missions with you pick up onboard your freighters together, so there is some joint questing. However from what I remember all the other quests, like those you pick up from space stations, the main quest line etc are all individual, even in MP.

IIRC it was with the 1.6 Next update that they improved the guidance at the start of the game, possibly due to many new players not knowing what to do.
For me continuing to play the game is a bit like that .
Even using the "map" to warp from one system to the next took me ages to figure out.
I do not find the UI intuitive to know what to do nor perhaps care enough to work through that.

I suppose that is an issue for me and this game I do get kinda excited when they announce these major updates and play it for a while but then give up just as abruptly.

No point in me nit picking the game as it plays well for some people. I'm just surprised at how little it holds me to want to play it enough to understand it better.

Back to Skylines.....

Same here, I'm still trying to fathom the galaxy map stuff. I noticed that in the "Discoveries menu" there appears to be a "Set waypoint" option. I guessed it would simply set it on the galaxy map, but maybe I'm missing a trick, as I can't see as it does anything. Also I have no idea what the red-dot on the discoveries list is supposed to signify?

New update coming tomorrow.
So soon after the last one, got to hand it to them, they are hitting it out the park lately with the updates.

Not played it for awhile, will deffo give it another try the weekend now.

With this in the Steam sale and hearing 'good' things that they finally fixed the game in the 'Next' update. I went ahead and took the plunge. So far, it's great! Limited bag space is one hell of an annoyance though and one I ran into within the first 30 minutes being on a planet.

Also, building a wooden shack feels horribly off given the games scientific advances. A wooden shack with a phase portal door lol...

Anyway, I'm starting to see it's crafting system is very in depth and the same goes for ships and other vehicles. Any tips for a newbie? I'm just about to start building up a warp drive but first need to fuel the ship.

@agnes Gameplay tips I’d say don’t concentrate to heavy early on making a huge base. Follow the story and quests early on to unlock very important blueprints. Don’t get hung up on building a nice base early, just make it functional until you find the perfect system which has the key elements for crafting the big money makers. Early game you want to unlock as much inventory space and tech space as you can afford, focus on your suits extra cargo slots as they hold twice as much stack. Either find drop pods on planets or visit every space station in a new system where you’ll find the exosuit merchant, there you can buy a slot upgrade each station you visit. Place your mods adjacent to each other for big bonuses, you can link up to 3 maximum, you’ll see the colour box match when you get the bonus. Try and get the scanner upgrades early so every Flora and fauna you scan on a planet will net you lots of coin, (I’m getting about 500k for each creature and flora scan now). If you find a 48 slot ship bag it no matter what class it is :).

There’s so much to the game now, just run with it for a bit to get a feel. Oh and play survival mode for the most enjoyment, just remember to hit alt+f4 very quickly if you die as it’s a one life save ;)

I highly recommend you download a few very handy mods from nexus mods and no mans sky mods to improve things hugely, including stack size. I’ll send you a few links of ones that so far have been updated for latest Visions Update which improve some key areas.

https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/820 Ship flight mod (hover, reverse, speed etc)
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/382 true lights
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/883 Larger stack size
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/484 Better ship seat
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/808 Effects Overhaul
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/652 No blinding lights
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/693 HD clouds 1.3
https://www.nexusmods.com/nomanssky/mods/335 Rotating clouds shader 1.3

There are 2 big mods that are yet to be updated, no scan lines/vignette and Creature Killer Instinct, need these bad. Im also using a ship launch reduce mod as it gets tiring crafting launch fuel all the time, just using a 50% less version. I use the mods to find the right balance not to make it easy and break the game but rather to improve on Vanilla. The stack size I just use the x5 version.

Just enjoy the mellow chill out.
