No more Type-R in Europe

Holy overreactions batman!

The thread title makes it sound like the whole type-r brand is dying forever in europe. Lets get some perspective by actually reading the article - the Civic Type-R is being axed because they dont want to spend the money modifying the engine on a model thats due to be replaced soon. Seems perfectly sensible to me, why bother spending £x million developing and testing to only sell 5 more cars?

The article says nothing about the future of the type r and whether the new model range will feature one

That's why old cars are the cars of the future for anyone who likes cars.

I love driving past Prius's and diesel misery wagons in my 5 litre Z28, undoing all their eco do goodyness.

Congratulations, you are now my idol

What is even more annoying is in the US/Canada they just don't care...just seems Europe/UK is the place where they are trying to kill off the car :(

Isn't it worse there? They banned the manual Toyota Supra twin turbo in 1996, and it was never sold at all in 5 states

It depends on the state...I know CA has very strict rules but TX doesn't...it still amazes me how many of them still drive huge V6 and V8 cars though. I remember reading the average American family has 3 children and 4 cars...

And?

2 children and 4 cars here.

Oh! 1 child and five cars here :)

Also notice there's a new Civic out in 2011 so I suspect there will be a Type R of some sort. They could also do what Subaru do with Prodrive, the standard car complies with the rules but you buy an after-market kit from Prodrive to tweak it, all covered by Subaru warranty.

Andi.

True, but with the Type-R already being a cost cutting exercise that's been watered down to a more sedate hot hatch, the K20 was the only remaining gem in the package along with the gearbox.

I do have high hopes for something interesting in the Type-R brand next but it's always going to be a compromise. If they can keep the high revving hooligan Type-R engine and find some economy too I'm all for it but the K20a will be missed!

Damn, every forum i've logged into this morning has been banging on about this, it doesnt say anything other than the K20 is dead, so what! Its a ten year old engine with poor fuel consumption compared to the competition, it was due to be replaced in 2008 by A-VTEC but that never went ahead so something else will be in the pipe line lets just hope its a high revving engine still and they dont give up on it all together and bring out an army of dissapointing performers ala the CRZ
