No more Type-R in Europe

That's pretty much sold it to me, I'm going to have to buy a big V8 of some kind. :p

It's a shame all this emission rubbish has kicked in, I understand why though and really, it's a good thing, but I can't help but to revolt against it :o

Holy overreactions batman!

The thread title makes it sound like the whole type-r brand is dying forever in europe. Lets get some perspective by actually reading the article - the Civic Type-R is being axed because they dont want to spend the money modifying the engine on a model thats due to be replaced soon. Seems perfectly sensible to me, why bother spending £x million developing and testing to only sell 5 more cars?

The article says nothing about the future of the type r and whether the new model range will feature one

Exactly. Why would they spend money making developments to a car that will be out of production in another 6 months

I like to think that I've got a vague interest in cars but I don't see this as a bad thing. Manufacturers will be forced into rethinking "hot hatches" which lets face it are supposed to be a compromise between everyday practicality and performance. It will be developments like those seen in the CR-Z that will keep me in a hot hatch not force me out of one.

its barmy. i mean, when will they learn that diesels with their high particulate count is actually just as damaging as a petrol if not more so? yet we only look at CO2 not total damage to the environment.

whats chinas regulation like? its almost like europe is pricing itself out of the world economy with redicolous rules, adding cost to all businesses and our ability to live, whilst other countries rapidly catch up and are more financially efficient as they are not tied up by all this legislation and push to go green, spending money to grow. not to become more green.

Most of the EU stuff comes down to a good range of pollutants. NOx is a big one for example.

Particulate matters (PM)/ (mg/km)

Diesel EU4 = 25........... EU5 = 5
Petrol EU4 = no limit......EU5 = 5

Oxides of nitrogen (NOx) (mg/km)

Diesel EU4 = 250..........EU5 =180
Petrol EU4 = 80............EU5 = 70

I've just been told (not looked myself) that on Honda's tech page the only car engines mentioned are hydrogen, and hybrid, in the economy section. And DTEC in the performance section.

This kind of makes sense looking at what happened to the Accord Type-S, the more powerful petrol was stripped of the Type-S badge and the lesser powerful diesel was branded Type-S

Interesting article (albeit 3 years old) article on A-VTEC here, including a comparison with BMW's Valvetronic:

I honestly think that this was scrapped. The article is from 2007 and it states it was due for release in 08 in the latest generation Accords but they still have K series and not one snippet of info regarding A-VTEC has been heard since and usually that site is very reliable with its info

It's very possible. Or perhaps delayed due to the economic situation. Who knows.

Maybe Honda will finally see sense and attatch a blower :)

We can all but dream.

I don't like them either but I don' like being told what we can and cannot buy even more

This, but the reason Honda are not going to make the changes is
The Civic itself is due to be replaced late next year and the new model is reported to be lighter and more economical than the car it replaces, in line with Honda’s new strategy.

Why spend the money changing it for 12months of sales.
