NOD32 v4

why did you focus on my line in particular? Most even write shorter comments. Franky I don't like programs that are difficult to uninstall/remove like norton or nod32.
No problems installing/uninstalling at all. Never had any problems with Eset software of any description.
He probably focused on your line as it contributed nothing to the discussion

thinking about a reformat anyway, I might have to download this.... its just such a pain at the moment to reformat with all the work that I'm doing...

Have you considered Acronis true Image? it really does speed up the whole process and if you take incremental backups regularly then its not a pain to re image.

Hey guys,

Any idea how to use NOD32 v4 to auto-scan MSN received files?

"C:\Program Files\NOD32\ecls.exe" --log-file=log.txt --action=clean

That does not work any more :(

Cheers,

Suman

I routinely checked the NOD32 downloads page today and found they've got a new build out. v4.0.417. So I downloaded it hoping it would fix whatever problems I had installing the first v4 build. It didn't. :(

But when I restarted my PC and installed v3 again, I noticed that the system tray icon looked different. So I open the NOD32 window and the whole thing is completely different. I realise I've got the new graphical layout that v4 offers. Weird methinks, how have I got v4 when it wouldn't install and I've just installed v3. So I check the actual build of NOD32 and I've got the old 3.0.684 build installed.

Somehow I've got the v3 engine with the v4 GUI. :D

Thinking something has gone majorly wrong with my Vista install, Excel spreadsheets take a few seconds to load and even longer to actually let me enter data. CCleaner takes 4+ seconds to load. On a rig running a Q9650 and 4Gb RAM this shouldn't be happening. So sometime over the weekend I shall check what drivers I need to have, wipe the disk and reinstall Vista. Should be OK now I know some tricks with Vista that I didn't when I first installed it last November. :)

What is your CPU and RAM usage.

I had installed v4 and my pc from time to time would go nuts with both my cores being at 50%(approx) and the RAM usage was up to 80-90% of my 8 gig.

I uninstalled it and went back to v3 and so far no signs of the system hogging.

I rather stupidly deployed V4 onto a load of servers without proper testing and they would periodically crash. My advice is stick with V3 for a little while longer, there are still some very significant bugs.

The 2 interfaces aren't that different from what I've seen. When doing the uninstall did you go into safe mode and remove the 2 folders and registry keys?

You may be right but I'd like to be able to at least install v4 for myself and see if it works. ;)

Not today but I did ring NOD32 UK and got a bloke to remotely control my PC and he couldn't get v4 to work. It isn't just the folders and those registry keys either. ;) There are some hidden keys that the NOD32 guy said he'd be amazed if anyone knew about them. :p

I've had no end of problems with v4, periodically start the laptop and I get a message along the lines of personal firewall rules couldn't be processed, restart or re-install. The eset icon in the systray then goes red and then a status will come up with it encountered an unknown error. Sometimes a restart will fix this but just yesterday I had to go through the convoluted uninstall process in safe mode, then manually remove the non plug and play drivers before being able to remove the registry and folders so that I could then do a reinstall.

Not too great all in all and looking on the forums others are having similar problems.

I think the real problem or part of the problem is that I've got a gut feeling that some of the problems are hardware related which isn't helped by the fact that Eset have chosen to try and protect the product from virus/spyware and abuse. For example under Vista the folders/files and registry keys are protected but this results in a more difficult install/unistall process. The uninstall process from what I've seen doesn't really do a clean uninstall as it too hits it's own protection.

Blimey!

Yeah. That's what the NOD32 guy said on the phone. Really hard to remove all trace of it.

Reading through the Wilder forums I think I've discovered the reasons for my problem posted here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17985677 seems that Eset was responsible, the firewall engine had some sort of bug which caused these disconnects http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=235038. My son mentioned at the time that disabling Eset made things better but my response to that was surely not. After spending a day looking at the above it just sort of fixed itself and now I know why.

Think I'm going to vote with my feet next time, reading through the Wilder forums some of the responses or lack of response from Eset is just plain absurd.

Speaking to Fire-Wizard on MSN in the early hours I said I might do the same when my NOD32 licence expires in August this year. I'm thinking of giving Avast free a go. :)

Thanks for the info in this thread. Haven't had any problems myself, but with NOD32 slipping down the detection charts and lots of people having problems with this v4 release, I don't think I'll be renewing when my license runs out in a few weeks. Will probably give Avira a whirl instead.
