Noise Pollution... I'm to blame!

If the neighbours can hear it anytime its to loud imo ,I have a silent agreement with mine that neither of us play music loud ever ,my gaming can get a bit load at night but I turn the sub down and try to keep it low otherwise I get rudely awoken early in the morning with loud music !

I think considering the price of semi's they could at least soundproof the adjoining walls .

Good one!! :)
That sounds very reasonable and well mannered. I wish more people would do this as there's nothing worse than a neighbour you war with.

A good move would now to tell your neighbour that you think you have solved the problem and ask if it is still affecting him. If it is, then get some headphones. :)

If he's worried about noise after 10pm i might wait till tomorrow before i ask :p

To everyone who keeps repeating the same thing, i know that if the neighbours can hear it its too loud, but the neighbours could hear it twice as loud as i could. It was a general problem... not me being a tit.

Should be sorted now though hopefully, i'll go round tomorrow and ask them. Could also see if any of them fancy coming over to check it out while i'm at it. Never know, they may love the same movies and end up watching them with me :D

wow! could you come and live above me please, I have had problem after problem with first a women who done the moonlight split then a guy who is still here.

Normal Activities consist of:

1. Throwing beer cans out of the window and front door and everywhere around my grond floor flat

2. Bringing 3 - 6 people back at least 3 to 4 times a week and having Wrestling matches with his mates above me. sounds like they are jumping up and down as hard as possible

3. Playing music at least those 3 - 6 nights loud enough to shake my flat

4. Using the upstairs window as a front DOOR! and just jumping out the window above mine.

I am at my wits end, It being housing association they do very little because they cant be asked with it. I just put up with it these days and just stay awake for hours on end awaiting it to finish (normally with work in the morning)

If I call the police they knock on MY door and ask me if its a prank call!? I don't want him to know I called the police cause he will key my car or something

If I go up there he dont answer the door or turns the music up

So summing up, Just DONT play music in a flat, its not worth it and people either live below or above you its not very nice for people like me. I persnally use headphones but the guy upstairs like to drink LOADS and DOES NOT CARE.

cba to sort out typo's btw :p

Wow, sounds like your having quite an ordeal. May ask next door to pop round and read that :p

I hope something happens for you mate, doesn't sound like a nice way to have to live.

You have my sympathy !

He sounds like a right a -hole

I would first put a very polite note through his door when he is on his own.

If that failed then I would give him a taste of his own medicine very load music when he is sleeping then go out and leave it on .

If that failed I would move or try and kill him .

And mine.

I've tried to be civil with my neighbours upstairs, they just told me point blank that they don't care what noise they make.

I've lived here 4 years and never had a problem, until those ***** moved in upstairs 9 months ago and it's been a nightmare ever since.

The next property I buy will be detached, I'm never going to put up with this again.

Are you keeping a log of the noise and have you got the council's noise abatement team involved? If you persist with this and your neighbours continue to make unreasonable noise, then they can end up with an abatement notice served against them and a hefty fine. It all takes a lot of time and patience though.

Asking you to keep the noise down after 10pm sounds very reasonable tbh, In my place my sub woofer is usually off 10pm at the latest, it really is surprising how far low frequency sounds waves travel, and also depending in the position of the sub sometimes it can sound louder outside of the room rather than in the room the sub is actually in.

TBH if your listening at high volumes you really should turn the sub off in the later hours of the evening at the very least, you say in your post that "i'm a really nice guy. I'm not some obnoxious **** who thinks he's above the world and can do what he wants", if that's the case I think you'll respect your neighbours very fair wishes.

I know many people that wouldn't put up with that kind of noise pollution any time of the day, I myself have been subject to noisy neighbours in the past and it started to effect my sleeping pattern, in turn that effected my mood and performance at work, I ended up becoming quite depressed over the whole situation, I know you have a nice new toy and want to blast it out and enjoy it but think of the effect you could be having on other peoples lives, I don't mean to sound all melodramatic and I'm sure you are a nice guy I just want you to think about it.

Noise is noise and I'll wager that even if you cut the volume by 75% that the neighbour would still moan.
I have a lot of experience of this and even have my own decibel meter and usually cutting the decibels makes no difference because theres still noise.
Around 1981 I had a very noisy neighbour who I could write a novel on.
One day I got my bands PA system and set it up facing the wall and played the heaviest album I'd got at the time which was Motorhead.
About 40 mins later I took it all down and 5 mins later the sound of Frankie Goes To Hollywood came through the walls.
A few days later she asked me when I was going to put my music on again.
The new owners ended up taking legal action and I was called as a witness (you didn't have to report problem neighbours back then).

Would that do anything?

I'd take the sub off the floor and sit it on some of those acoustic isolators that you can get (the cone type feet). That should help IIRC.

The sub sitting on the floor is physically transferring the low frequencies to the floor/house.

My noisy neighbours don't finish until 4am on their regular parties. I have to get up at 6am for work. I feel like ringing their doorbell at that time to see how they like it. They do actually turn their music down in the early hours but as they are drunk they sing louder instead.

Neighbours should never have to hear your music, regardless of the time of day.

That. You say you normally turn it down/off around 12am or so anyway... But you do realise it's illegal after 11pm at the latest anyway? Don't be a dufus, grab some headphones ;) :D Our neighbour had a habit of having wild parties STARTING at 1am to 2am, and booming on all night until 8am to 10am. Screaming, booming music, fighting, arguments over needles...

We had three children lying awake in bed on school nights listening to it; hammering on the door just got a 'Yeah sorry, we'll turn it down'. By the time I was back inside it was booming again. Her excuse was she could hear the kids playing outside in the day time, so why should she worry about music at 4am? I ended up texting her dad (also our landlord = sticky situation) at 3.30am one night. He was already vaguely aware of the issue (he lives in France now) so it was a case of "Please tell your daughter to turn the music OFF. 3am on a school night is taking the mick. She has 2 minutes, then the police will be arriving. Cheers."

Never happened again. I think he got annoyed? :D

Move into a detached property if you want to make noise without people hearing you.
