Sorry to me it's just a loud noise without much of a tune. Loads of revs and a loud exhaust is all they have really, to my ears they simply aren't musical like the 6's and upwards. The Mazda Group C car always crops up on these threads and to that car I'd say this. I saw every in era Group C race in the UK and a few abroad and the Mazda always stood out. When you first heard it belting around it was epic and you thought the best sounding car ever but after time, ie a few laps it became a total pain in the ass an again was just a loud noise. Now if you think these were loud you should have heard the Group 1 RX7's in 1979 and 1980, they would make your ears bleed and they were simply ear splitting with great big megaphone exhausts.
Even the Stag puts up a good show!You need 8 upwards in my book to make it sound epic, some 6's OK but most 8 and up. 12 is where it's at I think, best of the lot.
