Hey everyone, I've got a 150GB Raptor drive in my system.
Just wondered but when I save Football Manager gamers or when Windows loads up, or sometimes just randomly....I get a loud noise coming from my system that sounds like the drive is reading/saving data.
Is it just because the raptor is a loud drive that its so noticeable? I've got a 500GB drive for back up which when i access that is pretty much silent.
Is it the raptor being so loud?

If i was to sell my raptor what drive/s would offer as good a performance?
I've been looking at the WD Caviar SE16 16mb cache AAKS drives, maybe one on its own or two in RAID.

Any advice or recommendations?

performance = noise to be honest the cavalier is quieter only because its a 7200rpm drive try mounting the raptor on rubbers to stop case vibration or maybe even sound proof the case

what would be the best ways of sound proofing the case? Obviously with late night gaming, the Raptor gives off a nice loud drone, which doesnt bother me, but gives a loud humming noise next door

You can get rubber grommets to stick over the screws of the drive that does reduce vibration from the drive to the casing, and they help a lot. You can also get sound insulated drive enclosures, but these have the two issues of allowing more heat buildup than a bare drive, and also it forces you to use a 5.25" bay instead of a 3.5" one.

Here is above fixed, they seem to not like me linking to their site (not OCUK, other end).

Nice going. I have a raptor. It makes some mental noises sometimes. Like when the PC is idle, Vista decides "Lets Defrag it!" Q lots of moise. Really love it though and would not swop it for anything. Does that rubber band mod actually stop the clicking seeking noise on a raptor?

I believe there was Raptors in same set up as that on one of sites, now sure if 8Mb or 16MB's.

It cant stop the HDD making a noise, but most of the noise is the tranfer of vibration from metal (HDD case) to metal (your case) but it can tone it down a large amount.

I advise you get a big thick bath sponge (bone dry) and sit HDD on it as tempory measure, and see if it makes it quieter, before you go and mod things.
