Non LLU? Plusnet Pro or ADSL24?

Thanks for the updates :)

I am giving Sky a ring tonight and see what position i am in.

Looks likely i will try ADSL24 for a month and see how they are.

I've been with adsl24 for over 2 years, never had a problem at all. They are an entanet reseller (as someone mentioned) for the core home product, but have recently been moving into offering a LLU product.

EDIT - Main reason I went with them was the 1 month rolling contract

Ive been an ADSL24 user now for about 18 months, there were some hiccups when they switched to the new BT system but they seem to have levelled out now. And all other ISP's will be switching to the new BT system in the coming months im lead to belive and will have the same load balancing issues that all Entanet resellers had.

There downloads are fine and give you nice tools to track your usage, and it is possible to top up your peak download allowance for somthing like £5 for an extra 10gb.

I have had some outages but they have been more to do with Yoof's and railway worked getting a bit trim happy with wirecutters on the central pipes.

Id recommend them.

I was activated with ADSL24 (Office 45 package) on Monday, seems pretty good so far.
Pings and routing seem decent (London~12ms, Amsterdam~20ms, Copenhagen~31ms). There is very little flux or packetloss so in general it's the best gaming ISP I've had since Nildram over 3 years ago.

One of the things I like is their account centre, it's got a web interface to raise rickets, view your usage, and crucially you can specifically choose whether you want interleaving enabled or not (as opposed to the support lottery you get from most isps, phoning through to try and get someone who understands what you are asking for rather than just reading from a script...).

I went for the office package because it's unlimited from 8pm rather than midnight and I do most of my 'netting in the late evening. Also has an extra 400kbit or so upload speed. Having a 1month contract gives you a bit of piece of mind in case things go downhill - a welcome change after the horrorshow that was Orange, in the end I just quit halfway through our 18month contract, they are that bad that I'm happy to pay £90 to be shot of them!

Only issue I've had so far is that I'm stuck on a 500kbit IP profile despite syncing at 6.5mbit+, it was suppose to fix itself automatically after being connected for 72hrs but that doesn't seem to have happened. I'll give it another 72hrs and then get it looked into if I'm still artificially limited, bit annoying really as I should be seeing 600k/sec+ not 60k/sec.

Hey dudes,

I'm in a similar position after moving back home with the folks (oh, the shame! :p). We're on Zen 8000 Active at the mo (£24.46pm for a 25GB hard cap), and finding that the bandwidth isn't enough for all of us + dad's business use.

Firstly is it worth phoning up Zen and trying to re-negotiate a cheaper price on their Pro package (£34.25pm for 50GB)? I don't really want to migrate, as they've been rock solid, but that is just far too pricey for a 50GB hard cap.

I've been hearing lots of good things about ADSL24, and the Home30 package looks like a cracking deal. Just wondering if their reliability and support is on a par with Zen? The one month rolling contract makes it a risk worth taking...

Cheers,

Su

Enta are pretty good, I'd look at one of the office packages if you're using it for business use.

Their support is normally decent, but not up to the standards of Zen.

They (ADSL24) are cheaper, but Zen cost more for a reason and that 50Gb of data is pretty much guaranteed to come down at the speed your line is capable of 24/7 as they don't oversubscribe their network at all - they have no need to when they're charging users closer to what it actually costs to provide the quality of service their customers expect.

I doubt they would budge on the price, but then you pay your money and take your choices, if after a couple of months ADSL24 isn't for you then you can easily switch back to Zen.

Yeah, you're right about Zen - our line syncs at 8MB and the speeds are always pretty close to that regardless of what time it is. We've been with them about 2 years, so I just thought that haggling might be worth a shot :p but as you say I can always come crying back to Zen if another ISP doesn't work out...

Am I right in thinking the only difference with Enta Business packages is the 832kbps upload? And maybe better support? If so, the Office 15 product could be pretty interesting... the weekday unmetered period is longer (8pm to 8am). Unless the usage allowance includes uploads also? That would suck!

Cheers,

Su

+1 for ADSL24, been with them for several months now and had no issues at all. The webspace and static IP that comes with the standard packages doesn't hurt either.

Virign are now doing ADSL in non LLU areas

I was warned away from Virgin and O2s Non LLU services on this very forum ;)

We're also now booked in for ADSL Home 30 very soon :D

I'm going to struggle to keep below the monthly usage though :o

Shall be checking the online data thing daily hah

EDIT - Someone please explain this to me as it makes no sense.

You've got the Home 30 service at £18.90 per month .. giving 30gb month allowance on usage.

You've got the Home 60 service at £28.90 per month .. giving 60gb month allowance on usage.

Here's where I need the explaining ;) ...With the 'Top-Up' option you can pay £23.90 as a one off payment taking your Home 30 service up to 55gb Per month allowance... making the Home 30 service £20.89 per month..

Whats the catch?? You're recieving more or less the 60GB package once you've topped up. But saving £96.96 per year...?

Errrr, the top-up is an additional £23.90 per 25GB block mate - i.e. on top of your monthly fee!

:p

Bugger.. the terms mislead me slightly :o

Top-ups (default overuse option)
You can purchase any top-up in advance or as required. Top-ups are only consumed between 8am and 12am weekdays. You can also sign up for auto top-ups so your account will only be topped up if and when you go over your normal allowance.

Rolls over
Any top-ups you purchase will roll over every month until you have used them up.

Never expires
Any top-ups you purchase will never expire unless you migrate to another provider (including other resellers) or cease your line

Mainly that bit.. I thought I'd mislead myself and it was all too good to be true :D

We've been given a date of October 5th 2009 for switchover from Orange to Adsl 24

But orange is still on.. any ideas when it will swapover? Ta.

Sky was still on this morning for me too. Have a look on the My Account page on the ADSL24 website. According to the FAQ the order status will change to "completed" or "installed". As of just now mine isn't :(

Yo,

Got our Zen MAC today... want to time the migration so that we rinse the maximal amount of bandwidth from Zen :p roughly how long does the migration process take from when you place the new order with ADSL24?

Cheers,

Su

Ours has changed to completed, all working now.

Any joy with yours?
