North Face jackets, thoughts?

Well I just hit buy on the NF Evo triclimate thing. Cheers for all the info and arguments everyone :p

Reason I went with it:

- I don't care about fashion (you lot can argue for another 5 pages if it's 'in' or 'out' :p)
- Getting into more technicalities on weather proofing and other brands etc. will only lead me to spending more money
- It was on offer
- I liked the brown colour :p

As I said from the start, I'm not kidding myself. It's for my daily commute which will just consist of walking 20mins in whatever weather (meaning wind, rain and cold) and then standing on a stuffy tube. I don't need to spend £100s on anything more. Should I do the odd active weekend away or ever start cycling to work then it'll do the job for that too. Good stuff.

Also, I hear what you're saying Huddy about PS but I tried one on straight after the NF jackets and it just felt like it lacked a bit of the material quality of the NF. Same with the Berghaus one. Just my opinion, I'm sure they both do the job too.

i have a NF Stavros jacket (for skiing)

cant fault it at all, killy stuff seems to be really good aswell

in honesty, i thought superdry was a fashion brand and wouldnt have been my first thought if i wanted a warm coat for the winter?

I like my TNF tri-climate coat. It's nice and 'smart' looking, and really nice and warm. It's nice quality and decent value. I've got quite a bit of TNF stuff, and it's all the same.

I've got various TNF fleeces and baselayers for wearing at home and on duty, it's just good stuff that works well, and, imo, looks good.

Well yes and no.

The New Polar Wind Cheaters are around £70, They are NOT the warmest but do a great job at stopping wind chill when I'm on my bike going to uni at 0c these days. I just put on a thinnish jumper under it and I'm boogieing
You have to make sure its the new ones with the fabric inside the arms or you will freeze :P

I used to work for TNF so I tested most of their stuff and still own a lot of it. The technical stuff is first-rate - mine is all going strong after many years. I've also worked for two different outdoor gear suppliers, so I know how TNF holds up against comparable brands. I'm a bit out of the loop now as I haven't even worked in that industry for a few years, so I can't really offer any specific product advice.

There was always two major issues that TNF faced (when I was there, at least): The fashion crowd and the elitist, outdoor gear snobs. Unfortunately, the first just fueled the second. It was pretty frustrating.

TNF seem to have 2 branches to their business, the fashion range and the technical range. Their technical jackets are very well made with decent fabrics and a more tailored 'active' fit. The fashion stuff just seems like they've bought generic items and stamped their name on them.

Fussy people, in Cumbria we like to go out and about like this:)
