North Korea threatens US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Why do North Korea keep referring to the US as 'aggressors'? Are they actually doing anything to them?

It reminds me of when Liverpool fans keep saying Man Utd are their 'rivals' when in reality they pose no threat to them and United don't actually care about them.

The US operate a wide range of economic and political sanctions against North Korea, both sides have defaulted on an agreed framework to supply nuclear reactors to North Korea and it is the same old story of the US interfering in another countries policies due to ideological and political reasons....whether they are right to do so or not is another debate, but that is the reason why North Korea see the US as aggressors.

They have thought themselves "at war" with the US since the Korean War.

Agreed. If anyone's looking for some good insight into the effect of the sanctions in NK checkout a book called "A capitalist in North Korea" by Felix Abt. He's a Swiss businessman who just got back from running a pharmaceutical company in Pyongyang for 7 years.

That and the US attacked them during the north/south Korean war.

So basically Sky got some info from an anonymous (possibly even fictional) source and now all the news outlets are doing a Chinese whispers /facepalm

They do quite a lot. If a Company sets up a North Korean subsidiary then their US subsidiary will be shut down. This puts off numerous companies investing in North Korea as the will lose their lucrative US investments.

What harm does this cause? Well North Korea is massively rich in various natural resources but they cannot afford (or get credit) to import the machinery to release and process these themselves. There are also various lucrative markets in North Korea that the government cannot afford to exploit (there is a very wealthy middle class of around 1 million people in North Korea).

Traditionally they would set up a partnership with a foreign company who supply the equipment (You can see an successful example of this in the Oracom/Koryolink partnership) but these sanctions make a lot of these arrangements difficult.
