North Korea threatens US with a pre-emptive nuclear strike.

Perhaps the best Kim banter ever

Cmon nk press that big red button fire something at someone so i can visit the "new korea" in 2040 when the wars over and ur country's been rebuilt

I'm seriously surprised Paddy Power haven't got a market up yet for whether or not NK will launch a missile in 2013.

Lets face it, they ran a tactless promotion offering money back on losing next pope bets if the next pope was black!

Can the warmongers of OCUK please tell me why? Why do you want another war?

Well, articles like this would be the most compelling reason.

At least 200,000 people are forced to live in such camps. A life of misery, torture and starvation (~40% starve to death), without hope of escape or release. Generation after generation condemned to be punished for the sins of their grandparents. Children selling out their parents for execution in the hopes of a meal. "Through hunger you will repent".

...and the death camps are far from the end of it. Millions of civilians are living in fear and deprivation, starving, without any means of escape of self improvement (apart from a military career).

Youve gotta ask though, is it worth the death toll when its a regime which is on the verge of collapse anyway?

?!

I have to dispute this statement...

There is absolutely no evidence that the regime is "on the verge of collapse". The country is run by an elite with an absolute stranglehold on power, and absolute control over the population. If the country goes downhill, for whatever reason, it is the common people who will suffer the most. The elite will simply tighten their control over the population through fear and brutality. They have shown time after time that they are fully willing and able to do this.

Any attempt to "rise up" and overthrow the elite population will be met with brutal and swift resistance. This isn't Egypt, or Libya or Syria. There is absolutely no mechanism for the people of North Korea to overthrow their leadership without outside intervention.

I can't see the US shooting anything down unless it's heading their way/towards their assets. If anything, if and when North Korea do another test it'll only strengthen the international community's condemnation of their actions, including China.

I'm hoping the Americans have a code phrase ready for if they do shoot down a North Korean test missile. I'd suggest "C-c-c-combo breaker!"

Im not suggesting the people will rise up, but i do see the regime winding down. They moved away from communism, they have all but lost their two major supporters, without which they wouldnt even exist. They are completely alone. The world is starting to realise that they dont do anything but bluff. Sanctions are ongoing. Their military is barely getting fed, let alone updated and modernised. The two faces of NK are dead and buried and the new Kim pales in comparison to his father.

I just dont see how they can continue. Theres nothing left for them to do.

I dont see it going immediately, but i would be extremely surprised if NK exists in 10 years, even without a war with the US/SK.
