North Korea

Judging by the emerging stories from people whom have successfully defected the people in NK, although on the surface look loyal, are constantly living in fear and all the parades etc are a front. I would have thought that the way to handle them is to wait them out, if they do attack the US then get some covert spec ops/seals in there to strategically and surgically take out Kim Jong and his hierarchy, free the people, unite Korea and give the oppressed people of NK a better life.

Ah... in a perfect world.

I bet the Russians are feeling quite pleased with themselves, they created North Korea when they seized it during the end of WW2 and split the Country, as well as spread communism of course.

Seems to have paid off.

Anyone starting to wonder if NK have bottled it? Been more than a few days now and no missiles seem to have been fired..

.

Yeah, that worked out so well in Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan... lol. USA, USA! :D

rather fitting, this popped up on my feed. Damn those Americans with forks, and get shot for killing a cow, but they breed dogs for food.

Easier said than done - increasingly Kim it seems it using body doubles and is heavily protected - plus outsiders stand out a mile - it isn't an easy place to infiltrate.

Intriguing that they are potentially using RD-250 engines or clones of those engines on their ICBMs - possibly another reason for the trajectory as the latest ones were designed for satellite launches and they might be experimenting to adjust them for long range use.

He's not been seen for two weeks, i wonder if he has been offed.

e: I also heard on a news channel that NK had called all of it's ambassadors back from various countries.

I thought they used the weird high trajectories purely for testing the possible range and to avoid other countries, rather than actually just lobbing them on a true ballistic arc.

All arcs are ballistic, by definition... :p

But yes, firing them off as sounding rockets and checking the max altitude achieved is a good way of testing the capabilities without alarming anybody.

Please please let them have bottled it. I'm flying out to the states later this week, and being incinerated in a nuclear fireball is not on my to-do list.

lol, I'm going to LA for 5 weeks in October so I also hope no such thing will happen.

I think the chances of any sort of nuclear war happening are pretty tiny to be honest.

In my unqualified non-expert opinion, NK have absolutely nothing to gain by firing anything at the US, talk is talk - but when it comes down to it, I don't think NK will do it, they know that they'll simply bring the worlds most advanced and ferocious military force directly to it's shores if it does.

The only thing I think that NK can do effectively is unleash hell upon Seoul and very quickly kill lots of people. But it's not as though they can just do that and walk away - it would generate the most enormous retaliatory attack with US/SK/JPN combined.

I just don't think NK have the stomach for real conflict, not against the worlds most powerful military, it's just talk.

Various different opinions on it - the most likely due to overflight contention but also potentially other explanations or partial reasons.

SEOUL, Aug. 15 (Yonhap) -- North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has been briefed on the military's plan on missile strikes near the U.S. territory of Guam, home to key American air and naval bases, Pyongyang's state media said Tuesday.

The North's leader "examined the plan for a long time" on Monday during his inspection to the command of the Strategic Force, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

North Korea said last week that it will finalize by mid-August its detailed plan to fire four intermediate-range ballistic missiles around Guam and report it to its leader for approval.

Well, guess I can tick off visiting Guam for a holiday for a while, I never been a fan of tans, I like my creamy white skin. :D

Just send in Steven Seagal. At the very least, there'll be one less Steven Seagal to worry about.
