Not happy at all with GEIL

Just collect it in person and have done with them. What a bunch of muppets. Should have gone to specsa... I mean OcUK... tbh. :p

I bought 2x 2GB of OCZ Reaper HPC PC8500 from OcUK two or so years ago, and this year it started BSODing in Windows and failed memtest86+ badly. OcUK gladly accepted it back, processed the RMA via OCZ, and then forwarded on a new dual channel kit to me all within a fortnight. That's two years after purchase. So the "only the retailer's problem for 12 months" thing is rubbish... unless you just go to a rubbish retailer? :D

Good luck mate.

Put it this way it will be the last time I have anything to do with them.

I have been a happy customer with OCUK for several years now and will happily purchase everything from OCUK from now on. The only reason why I purchased it from that retailer was because I was in the same area at the time of me needing the ram.

who was the retailer?

You're kidding right?? read the forum rules m8 on regarding naming a competitor.

I have 1 stick of black dragon that keeps freezing pc no matter what settings I try also tried in others machines same problem I think I got the dual kit from ocuk 2+ years ago would ocuk take it back I also only have 1 of the 2gb sticks from 4gb kit.

Short answer. No.

Short answer. No.

Is that no to all the questions I asked or only curtains ones?

I thought ocuk dealt with Geil warranties a very old post from years ago mentioned it?

I don't have the second stick I gave it to my brother who lives in Africa so no way to get that back.

i would imagine you'd have to send the full kit (ie, both sticks) back, as thats what you bought

£35 to £40 partial refund would have been fine to buy some adequate 'new' replacement memory, but what you've currently been offered is short of the mark...

Yes I would have been happy with a £35/40 refund but £25 was a joke.

I got the memory back the other day will be posting it off tomorrow.

Hopefully you will get it sorted you should get compensated for your time from the company that messed you about.

Do you have to sent both sticks if dealing with Geil directly? I was thinking of going that route but if they are say as what others have said two sticks only i might as well just bin this stick.

Yes you do have to send all sticks back if purchased in dual or quad channel.

Straight from my RMA from Geil.

Note.

1. Any means of delivery by Royal Mail, EMS, USPS international, UPS or FedEx will be acceptable.

2. Claim the value of your modules with lowest price (<$10) in customs declaration form to reduce the process time and taxes.

3. Please send the complete product back to us instead of just only one / defective module if they are Dual (G~DC)/ Quad Channel (G~QC) product.

4. After we get your package, it'll be taken another seven-working days either for repairing or replacing if necessary.

This depends on the agreement the retailer has with geil a retailer only has to honour 12months the lifetime is offered by geil which most times the manufacture will want to deal with issues after 12months at the customers own cost.

AFAIK, that's wrong. Up to 6 years under Sale of Goods Act, up to 2 years under EU law.

Retailers fob people off with this tosh so it's not surprising people believe it.

I also bought 4gb of Geil Ultral Low Latenct DDR2 RAM in 2007 (from Overclockers) and one of the sticks has always been faulty. When the problems started I ran some memory checking software, which said that the RAM was OK but the problems persisted and I removed 2 of the sticks. A few years later I ran Memtest 86 which showed the fault. I contacted Overclockers about the lifetime guarantee and they refused to do anything about it, saying that I had to write to Geil. I did this and received an RMA letter. I have not sent the memory back yet as I was unsure about the costs and delivery methods (they did not include the Royal Mail).
I was rather annoyed with the way that Overclockers washed their hands of the matter, as the Ram has never worked properly and it was advertised as having a lifetime guarantee. I thought that the guarantee would mean that I would send the faulty ram to the retailer (Overclockers) and they would send it to Geil.
Is it possible to use the Royal Mail to send the RAM to Geil and how much does it cost and how should it be packaged.

RMA form from Geil

You can send it by Royal Mail which I have done which only cost me £6.07 which is also insured. The packaging I used was the original plastic packaging that come with the RAM which I put inside a bubble envelope.

You will also notice this in the RMA letter from Geil

2. Claim the value of your modules with lowest price (<$10) in customs declaration form to reduce the process time and taxes.

Something you don't really have to worry about because the Post Office wont let you do this anyway.

If I were you m8 I would just RMA it straight to Geil.
