KEY FACTS
This E34-era BMW M5 is a timelessly specified example of the acclaimed modern classic sports saloon, offered in smart, largely original condition, and boasting the desirable Handling pack.
Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 3.8-litre ‘S38B38’ inline-six, delivering around 335bhp to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.
This M5 was first registered in Sweden in August 1997, and was with the previous owner for 16 years. It has now been with the seller for around one year.
The example has been driven and enjoyed as intended, but evidently well maintained, and just serviced at independent BMW specialist Per Larsson.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This M5 was specified with the sought-after Nürburgring Handling Pack, which includes a thicker front anti-roll bar, wider rear wheels, EDC switchable dampers, and a servo-tronic steering rack.
This example is finished in the timeless combination of Diamond Black Metallic over a full black leather-trimmed interior.
It rides on a set of 17-inch ‘Style 21’ alloy wheels, shod with Michelin Primacy 3 tyres on the front and Pilot Sport 4s on the rear.
The factory specification includes headlamp washers, a three-spoke steering wheel, electrically adjustable door mirrors, an on-board computer, cruise control, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, an electric lift-up-and-slide-back sunroof, electrically adjustable front seats with three-position driver memory, and an electric rear lateral roller blind.
This M5 now features a Pioneer CD stereo, an aftermarket stainless-steel sports exhaust, and Koni shock absorbers with HR springs.
It will be supplied with a warning triangle, a complete toolkit, the owner’s manual and service booklet, a raft of inspection papers, a spare wheel, and the original EDC dampers, though an overhaul is recommended before their use.
CONDITION
The Diamond Black Metallic paintwork is recently repainted and reported to be in good overall condition given the car’s age, though the seller notes some stone chips and minor blemishes around the car. There are also scuffs on the front bumper.
Inside, the cabin is in generally good shade given the car’s usage. The seller notes various blemishes and scratches on the seats and steering wheel. There is also creasing on the seats, slight sagging on the headlining around the sunroof controls, wrinkling on the driver’s door card, and a few other minor blemishes and scuffs around the trim.
The seller is not aware of any mechanical or electrical faults, and they state that there are no warning lights showing on the dashboard, though they do note that the rear door window blinds are missing.
The car’s last roadworthiness test was conducted on 15 December 2021, resulting in a pass following a repair carried out on the air pump.
SERVICE HISTORY
This M5’s most recent maintenance was carried out in June 2022 at 222,142 Kms by independent BMW specialist Per Larsson BMT AB, which included an engine oil and filter change, as well as the fitment of new rear bushings, gearbox linkage bushings, a new clutch, pressure plate and release bearing, and rear EDC hoses and pipes. The cost for this was around 4500 EUR.
This M5 is understood to have had an engine oil change every year whilst with its previous owner.
Other notable maintenance includes all new brake discs and pads, rust repairs on both front sills behind the plastic covers, a full respray, a new rear tyre, and a new original gear lever being installed.
