Not sure how I feel about that one. Might need mull it over for a while.
I'd love a Plus Six. BMW B58 with Morgan styling. Epic combination. The price is mental, however!

There is a local one to me. I droll every time I see it out and about. Certainly a nostalgia car for me.
That seems optimistic, my 911 turbo wasn't much quicker and that was froma model range 10 years newer.Would absolutely have one of those. Allegedly 177mph with 4 people and luggage....
It's just wonderfully silly.

On a related note, doing over a ton in something like that takes some balls.
Overpriced old Vauxhall.
I only mention the speed as it doesn't look the most aerodynamic of cars . Also the speed looks about 50mph faster than other comparable cars (of that size, outside of supercars) of the time (which I guess is your point)At the time they were launched they blew everything away. Despite having official figures of 174mph top speed, users and testers achieved speeds in excess of 180mph and were faster than any Porsche 911 or Ferrari 456 available at the time. From memory the only car faster than the Lotus Carlton was the Ferrrari F40. The DM ran a campaign to get them banned and the police were worried they had nothing which would catch them. O-60 was approx 5 seconds.
There was the infamous stolen one with private reg 40 RA which was used on a string of shop ram raids as a getaway car in Midlands in the early 90s, even once doing a shop opposite a police station as the crooks knew they could get away from the Police and the police never could catch them. Even the police said it is unlikely they ever would and AFAIK they were never ever caught.
It really was a one off car, never to be repeated and we will never see the like again. They weren't cheap when new, £50,000 which is £142,000 in todays money.
EDIT: Interesting footnote. The guy who owned 40 RA never did get his car back but he currently owns another Lotus Carlton and 40 RA is back on the car.
Weren't they ridiculously long geared too? I'm sure I remember reading they'd do nearly 60mph in first gear
gear ratios | 2.68:1, 1.80:1, 1.29:1, 1.00:1, 0.75:1, 0.50:1 |
