Notting Hill Carnival

What what what... The BBC says it was a festival of colour and was a lovely day out.

Went once, about 30 years ago, was some cracking drum & bass and a happy time apart from the chap who got a good kicking for nicking peoples red stripe from a wheely bin.

Also got suckered into the hype and went once about 15yrs ago. Terrible music (I thought it was supposed to be live music? It’s not), too crowded (literally couldn’t get anywhere), no toilets. Yeah, no thanks. Just have to remember when it’s on to avoid the area!

Yeah, waving machetes about and stabbings. Sounds perfectly safe.
It's about as safe as going out to any reasonably sized town/city on a friday or saturday night, probably safer given the blue light presence. Been multiple times and the most an average person is likely to face is some jerk chicken thats been sitting in the sun too long, some bad weed, or a hangover the next day.

Dunno why you were expecting lots of live music ? The music at Notting Hill has always been primarily based around sound system culture. It’s a festival celebrating caribbean culture after all… were you expecting a bunch of rock/indie bands or something ? Lol

There usually is some form of live music though, it’s just not the standard.

Went well again I see. What a wholesome family atmosphere

Funny how the organisers are trying to say that those people have nothing to do with the Carnival as if they'd have just happened to be in Notting Hill with their knives on Mondays anyway...

The obvious solution is to move it to Hyde Park which hosts plenty of events and where you can scan/search people for knives before they enter.

Lol not indie/rock. I just thought the music was live. Not awful PAs turned up way louder than they should, all fighting with each other.
