Had to unfortunatly move from Virgin to ADSL a while back.
Me and a mate rented a new place nd he had an existing sky contract so we ended up with sky ADSL, started out quite poor but after stabilisationw as fine, thrashed the conenction non stop for a year and never heard a peep from sky.

Didn't notice any throttling either, downloads and transfers seemed steady, only qualm I had was the pants poor router they supplied.

move onto to recently buying a house, choice of VM and sky...

dum dum duuuum, I chose Sky on cost alone due to offers at the time (50% off for a year) cost so much less than Cable and an ADSL provider I was happy with using. Had no issues, think BT said I could get around 6Mb, last time I checked I was over 15meg on my sky connection.

I went thru the initial stabilisation period with all intentions of calling up and having the gaming profile enabled but I've had no need to as pings and stuff have been fine :)

if you're on Sky Unlimited then you'll be on ADSL 2+ immediately.

When you plug the Router in and switch it on, don't touch it, no matter what it does for about 15-20 minutes. Apparently they download a firmware update the first time you connect it.

In fact, do not touch it for 10 days, if you switch it off/reset it then the line training get's messed up and thinks there's a fault and lowers your speed.

I wasn't planning on even plugging their router into the line! I'll connect it to my existing line before the activation date to get the password out and then use my Draytel ADSL modem and Time Capsule.

i would plug the sky router in for the first 10days to allow the line to get setup/trained via DLM etc. Then after that use your own router.

Out of the training period for the router with Sky.
Very happy with the results.

I was wound down to 4mb with Bt.
Just run a speedtest and am now getting almost 9mb down, and 1mb up.

Very glad I made the switch, BT were getting worse, especially at peak periods.

The switchover was easy, and Sky Customer Services have so far been excellent.

I have a letter and a parcel from Sky at home. That'll be the activation date and the router.

w00t, 7th June!

Good times, try it sooner, mine was done by remote activation and working 3 days before my official installation date

As for technical support see below.

I had my sky broadband & phone installed on the 12th last month (actually worked from 09th). When it first went in I had 2.4Mbps down and 0.8Mbps up and a ping of 55ms. Not bad as I am 4 miles as the crow flies from the exchange.

During the 10 day bedding in period it kept getting slower and slower, Last week it reached a low and ended up at 1.3Mbps down and a 0.3Mbps up.

During all of this I had called sky customer services loads. Basically I didn't want to end up with useless speeds after my cooling off period. Eventually they escalated to their BB technical team who have now got me back up to full pelt. They have left the active line management on and from what I understood from a call back today, it is set to enhance above the threshold value they have set and not drop below it. Seems to be working.

Not noticed any traffic management yet and getting a solid 50ms ping. No stuttering with iPlayer through the PS3 or online gaming. Overall, very happy now. Was still ok with gaming /streaming even at the1.3 Mbps.

The sagem router is good so far, their customer service is good + English call centres. Costing me £11.25 for first 3 months then £22.50 for the remaining 9. £50 topcashback comming and only a £10 install/activation cost. Total effective cost for the year assuming £40 vaue for the router (I had not got one) = £146

Give them a ring and ask them to "reduce max delays to 8ms" to see your ping times reduced dramatically :)

Now I'm home, the router is a Sagem and I used that link to produce my details. Now I just need to wait a few days. I'll probably try it on Monday as it's due to go live on Tuesday.

Went Active last nite, my Max line speed is 4Mbps. tried a steam download 400Kbps, not bad for an old copper cable line, anyone have any ideas when BT will change their infrastructure from copper cabling to fibre optics? read loads of posts on the Sky Forum with people expecting 20MB downloads speeds and only getting 2-4.

Having just moved into a new place I have been considering my bb options. From my initial investigations Sky unlimited looked best and this thread has helped in that decision. Will make a purchase next week me thinks

Just dont expect 20mb speeds, more like 4-6mb depending on quality of line and distant from exchange.

Just from general assumption, it's very rare to see anyone on the max 20mb speed, most percentage of Sky users on the sky forum have posted speeds between 2mb - 12mb and are unhappy with the service due to the fact that sky advertise a speed 20mb and the averge joe only gets about 4-8mb. I can understand why Sky users are upset but it's mainly due to an old infrastructure that BT use.

Most ISP's and Sky are included in this Advertise UPTO 20Mb, my 2 have been 16.5 and 12.5 with Sky, my mate also gets around 14Mb.

Before you order all ISP's normally give an estimated speed.
Due to how ADSL works and the ancient wiring across pretty much all of the UK even the estimates maybe out. BT Told me I could get 4-6 Mb on my line, It's always been above 10Mb with Sky :)

Of all the people moaning I bet a good percentage of them were initially told UPTO 20MB then an estimate also, I don't agree with the whole UPTO advertising but they all do it.

But still without any info as to area, exchange and distance you can't even give a rough estimate

i'm pleased to say I DO get the 20 Meg sky promise. I've had my Router syncing at 19999 previously but atm it's around 19.6. I'm lucky enough to live less than 1km from my exchange which helps loads.

I was estimated 3Mb and sync at 6496kbps and that's because Sky have capped me at 6496.. I see my modem reports a max rate of 7138, but I cba ringing to get it uncapped.

To be honest it comes down to the quality of the copper. Thankfully, I was wired up on a brand new infrastructure, so at almost 2 miles I feel that's pretty good :)

I found this in the setup pages of the Draytek.

So I've set the MAC address to be the same as the Sky supplied router. That should be that possible issue sorted, right? Or will it not make any difference because the Draytek really is purely just a modem and the Time Capsule does the logging on bit.
