Now what?

"Now what" is simple. "Now what" is me buying a second hand 2008 model Mac Pro tomorrow, driving straight to an Apple Store and buying an 8800 video card to install along with a copy of X-Plane and then when I get home, going online and ordering an extra 16Gb of memory to load it up with :)

My PC is sold. Although I'll still be running a copy of XP in VMWare for various legacy apps that I need, I will no longer have a PC under my desk.

All this from originally playing around loading OS X onto a VM under Windows. And I bet you all thought that I'd never do it :D

^ That is all

P.S. Hope you enjoy it! :p

I really don't understand the problem with discussing hackintoshes -- it seems to me that most people who get a 'taster' buy macs next, and the legality doesn't stand either because 1) buying leopard entitles you to use it 2) half the discussion on this same forum about the iphone are about jailbreaking/hacking/unlocking it without raising the slightest eyebrow.

To me a hackintosh is just a 'leopard demo' -- next you /have/ to get that 8 core macpro... "First hit is free ! " :D

Congrats to the OP for the new mac; here I'm suffering with my 2*G4 1.42, the iMac 17", and a mac mini until they release the new MacPro -- hoping they don't yet make the transition to $$$$$ DDR3 :D

It is at the discretion of the mods. If you feel it's not appropriate. Report it.

Congrats Feek.

You can find that 16GB RAM across the atlantic for a fraction of the cost

Yay Feek is joining our 'exclusive' club!!!

As EVH said, order that memory from overseas for sure.

May I also suggest perhaps, if you can afford, running in RAID1?

I, and EVH have...although I've since changed to normal because BootCamp wont run on a RAIDED drive.

I do miss that.

Don't bother with RAID, it's really not worth it.

I've went into RAID twice now in the last year with 2 and 4 drives respectively and it's resulted in 2 potential hard drive failures which would have broke each array and lost my data.

Get a nice quick 1TB drive and you really can't go wrong in my opinion.

I find it amusing to look back at this thread every now and then.

Look at me now, Mac Pro, Macbook Pro, iPod Touch, iPhone, AppleTV, Airport Extreme.

Anyone would think I'm a convert :D

And all from a naughty tinkering with a hackintosh ;)
Maybe Apple should take note.....

It is very good to see someone take up the Apple bug and run with it! :D

From memory I've had 2x iMacs (First Intel iMac and early 2008 24"), Mac Pro (3.2GHz x2 Quad Core), a White MacBook C2D (Early 2008) and now finally I've settled on a Unibody MacBook Pro!

Accessories include Airport Extreme, Time Capsule, Airport Express (which I still have) and also the dome shaped Airport which I'm using now.

Had the original iPhone and now the 3G iPhone and iirc I've had 2 iPods & 2 Nano's and somewhere is a old Shuffle which my mum uses!

CRAZY!

Well if we are naming then in the last 2 and a half years i have had and still have;

PowerMac Dual G5 2.0GHz, MacBook Pro 17", iPhone, Time Capsule 1TB, iPhone 3G White, 2.8 Unibody MacBook Pro.

iPod 3G 20GB, Wireless Keyboard, Wired one also, Wireless Mighty Mouse. Probably more stuff aswell!

I'm looking at the LED cinema display and the In Ear headphones atm too! :p

Before Sept 2006 i had no Apple products... :p

Then i bought a Macpro(1st Gen), 24" iMac, 17" Macbook pro, a 2nd Macpro(2nd Gen), then a 4gb iPod nano, 160gb iPod Classic and 8gb iPod nano.

If i hadnt dropped my photography hobby id have bought a 3rd Macpro (i7)

I wasn't posting to willy wave at what I've got, more sort of to show that just playing around with the OS in the first place had progressed me onto a real Apple owner.
