I'm just curious, I got myself down to 16 on startup. :)

I hit around 20-25 after a few days however.

Hi,

Using my mums pc at the moment which I built 2 weeks ago and this has 51 processes runing

Rob

Got mind down to 18, and that's with 2 processes running for my printer.

Kaiju, the nvsvc32.exe isn't a critical service and you don't need it running at start-up, so you could get it down to 15 processes.

Awesome mate, always post these kinds of threads in the hope that other people will give tips, pointers, advice. Been a long while too since someone gave a helping hand as i'm always researching new ways of improving my system. For that, much gratitude goes your way. :D

Anyway, that's actually 14 now as I forgot to discredit the task manager process. ;)

Crist :(

39 on this machine

4 are folding at home
2 remote desktop connections
1 firefox
1 winamp
2 perfect disk
xfi drivers (seem to take up about 10  )
nvidia
steam
vmware
etc

laptop at 40

dell quickset
some 7-8 bluetooth services ( )
steam
etc.

both are very nippy still :)

39 is nothing to be worried about. The difference in performance between 23 and 33 is nothing. I cba tweaking this anymore as the difference is so small.

I've disabled all the X-Fi processes and I can still hear music.:) The PerfectDisk ones can also be disabled or should I say tweaked in services.msc. One of them is the PerfectDisk scheduler, I don't bother with this so I disabled this service. The other is the actual PDAgent which, as far as I understand it, is only used when PD is running so I changed this to Manual so that it'd run only when I run PD.

As for the Bluetooth, I hardly ever add or remove Bluetooth devices so I looked at some of my Bluetooth process and found some where just the tray programs. I had one tray program from MS and one from the company who made my dongle. The MS one didn't do anything so I tentatively disabled that and restarted. Bluetooth devices functioned A-OK.

Thats what i used to do with pd, im just too lazy to continuously do it :p
Will have a bash at the xfi, problem is, the last time i tried i lost huge amounts of panel functionality. :/
Bluetooth, i havnt fiddled with yet either. :)

On a side note, my fathers laptop had 73 processes (:eek: ) when i used it to show him how to use the home broadband connection for vpn, i cleaned it down to 35 with no loss of functionality in any of his applications :D

The speed increase was like going from a 486 to a c2d!

Dual core will take full advantage of processes, however for single core users like myself, there is a veritable cornucopia of possibilities with that extra power. Believe me. ;)

A pleasure Kaiju :)

If you're not connected to a printer, the spoolsv.exe doesn't need to be running at start-up. If you're not on a cable connection, you may get away with not having the alg.exe running at start-up as well.

is there a list of required processes anywhere so a noob like me doesnt delete anything important ;)

heh i think i am using 47 and i think they are all doing something i want. i dont really care really. pc is stable and virus and spyware free so its all good. i just have to burn off 120gb of dvd movies to create more space. cheaper than just buying a new hard drive i guess :)

13, low as you can get it tbh, any lower and you have to get rid of networking etc.

17 with F@H running...

isn't it 12?

-print spooler isn't needed if you dont have a printer (spoolsv)

Process Explorer tells you exactly what each svchost is running, and the descriptions of the services in services.msc make it pretty obvious which ones you need, so can safely disable them from startup
