I'm really tempted but it'd set me back about £300. I can sell my current monitor though to gain a little back, so I guess it'd cost about £250 in all.

Is it worth it?
Are all modern games supported?
Are the drivers good?
Does it use normal drivers or does it have its own?

Any info along these lines would be appreciated

I think it's great, I'm not sure it's worth the costs though.

I would also recommend you try it out first if you haven't already, I tried it with batman, which looked great, but I tried it with some other things and they just made me feel sick.

There's also a performance drop with it too, so you might not get that much benefit out of it.

I wouldn't spend a lot of money for it tbh - its great as a novelty but not that practical (atleast yet) for general use. Although having a 120Hz display is always a plus.

got the viewsonic 120hz screen last week, fantastic for gaming SO much better than normal screens that i couldn't go back now (and i came from a 24 inch screen) its just so much smoother in general and it completely eliminates screen tearing without the need to use the input lag riddled vsync. tested this on many many games that had horrific tearing before far cry 2 dx10 bench, gta4, stalker pripyat bench, crysis etc

got the glasses 1 day ago, had a little trouble with setup, the 3d drivers come with the standard geforce drivers but it seems to need nvidia usb drivers for the ir emitter which i didn't realize but you can easily download the cd from nvidia and just extract those if needed here's link to the latest one -

tried a few games now, heres what i've found with them -

avatar demo - this is really the poster child for this setup, it looks ridiculously good. when it starts with the helicopter section my jaw hit the floor at the 3d effect of the heli. then you land and the on foot section is arguably even better looking in 3d, imo in 3d this blows crysis away its that good

resident evil 5 - the towns feels so much more alive and creepy especially the crows, some really nice camera work on the cut scenes too, will be replaying this for definite in 3d

isometric games - so practically any rts or diablo clone, take torchlight for example, it has no nvidia rating but looks really good in 3d and only the mouse pointer looks a little weird or on the wrong plane or whatever

iracing, GTR2, rfactor - the cockpits look superb, it looks like you can reach out and touch the dash in the jetta tdi in iracing, makes it easier to judge corners aswell with the added depth perception

half life 2 ep2 - heres where things have a couple of little issues, it immediately pops up a message saying you should disable hdr lighting and you need to disable the crosshair too really and enable the nvidia one or again its on the wrong plane. other than that though it works really well indeed, its hard to describe the 3d in words but believe me it adds a LOT and i will be replaying this also

i'm only using a gtx 260 and i've not really had any performance issues as such, just turn the aa down to 2xaa or even off, all the above games were perfectly playable to me on max or near max settings. would i recommend it? absolutely, its fantastic imo and i will be using it LOT in the future, if you can demo it somewhere definitely try it and see if they have avatar demo, if you're not impressed by that then it probably isn't for you, although i'm not sure how you couldn't be :)

It's a novelty really rather than a must have,
You definitely see a difference in getting a 120Hz monitor in general though

Is it worth it?
Probably not, the games aren't 3d per se but certain things stand out more.
I strongly suggest you try them at a certain popular high street retailer before you buy them

Are all modern games supported?

Some are hit and miss but the Nvidia endorced games seem to work on the whole.

Are the drivers good?
Same as the normal ones

Does it use normal drivers or does it have its own?
The glasses do

Racing and other driving/flying type games are the most practical for it really - without the crosshair and generally having a 3D cockpit instead of 2D HUD it all works quite well. FPS games especially I found it was more of a pain than anything else.

So I'd prolly correct what I said above - if you spend a lot of time playing the types of games that work well with it then it might be worth it, otherwise probably not.

You will always get tearing without vsync. From your comments here you clearly do not actually know what vsync is.

Have a read and be carefull not to missinform people.

You put the idea into my head now >.> stupid upgrade bug

would eyefinity 3d be a possiblity in future ?

Its possible now but you would need an expensive adapter for the 3rd monitor and you would be paying through the roof for such a luxury.

And you would most likely need for Crossfire due to the high resolution, AA combined with the 3D.

If you have some red/cyan 3D glasses (available on ebay for a few quid) you should give the iZ3D drivers a try (select anaglyph and red/cyan optimized). It's a very nice 3d effect with lots of depth and should give you an idea if 3D Vision is worth it (3D Vision doesn't have the colour issues than red/cyan glasses have). To me the immersion level is so much higher than a flat screen. Once you have it setup just right the level of depth in the image is awesome, but at the same time there are issues with it, specifically the auto focus doesn't really work (dunno if the nvidia version has this problem).

I'm also currently weighing up buying a GTX 260 and 3D Vision glasses (have a high spec CRT so don't need a new screen). Seems a shame to downgrade from my 4890 though, wish nVidia would get their next line of cards out.
