NVIDIA 4000 Series

I'm not sure that CPU limitation matters that much - There is always a limitation between CPU and GPU, this seems to be the first time that CPU limitation is potentially a bigger issue than before.

Unlike before, the limitation seems to be on the cheaper item to replace, which is surely the best way round?

Not sure about cheaper,. You seen the price of th new motherboards? New mobo and cpu likely to cost almost as much as the 4090 did./

I'm interested to know how well my 3970x Threadripper pairs with it. I'm mostly justifying the purchase for work but will obviously be gaming on it in the evenings. I'll probably hit some bottlenecks in the more single thread based games.

My Strix 4090 almost looks small in my Evolv X!

Really love the build quality, a full metal card is fantastic, I hope other AIB's catch onto this for the 5000 series!

Card is so quiet, very pleased so far :D

i thought it had an illuminated ROG EYE logo on the back of the card, a bit like the 2080ti strix

Honestly, mate if the Aorus fit in my case it's the one I'd have gone for, I love the look of it. I completely forgot the AIRO has that horrible pink sticker though :(

Anyone with the AIRO, do you know if you can change the fan/bios thing from gaming to quiet from within the software or do you have to flip it on the card?

I have the zotac amp ex.
No pink anything on the back. And yes you change the bios via software.
There is a button. But I can't tell with out software what mode it's in.

Its one to test. The German outfit tested just undervolting which until the power used dropped below 80% then there was xero decrease in fps. They were running at 360W instead of 450W.

In other reviews where they have just limited the power, there has been some falloff in framerate (albeit small) before they got to 80% power.
Thanks for the info. Seems like undervolting is going to be a better option after all

Thank you very much, at least I know it'll fit!
I'm going to use it with a riser and probably the itx Strix board, depending on ryzen 7000 X3D performance

You're welcome, hope you get your card soon and enjoy it you have it already!

Also excited about Ryzen 7000 X3D - just hope they do a 12 or 16 core version this time!

Did you opt into anything in order to receive the FE emails do you know?
I've just gone and opted in to every possible email communication on the Nvidia website. And given them my _real_ details including my job and location. AND I sent them some 'feedback' through GeForce Now asking politely if I could be included in the priority buying program for the 4090.

Almost certainly completely futile, but I'll let you know if I hear anything back!

Spent a frustrating couple of hours trying to get one yesterday, but no luck.

I've today received an invite from nVidia to purchase an FE via a link in Geforce Experience, so went ahead with that. I've received confirmation email from the retailer dealing with FEs that I should get it on Tuesday.

The psychology of all this is brilliant - I'm almost feeling honoured to have been allowed to spend £1,700 of my cash on a graphics card I don't really need!

Are they trying to get people to install GeForce Experience then?

Seems a bit unfair that they’re limiting the units that the other retailer can sell, currently saying out of stock, but are inviting GFE users to purchase directly from the same retailer.

Nice I suppose if you wanted one and missed out yesterday but seems a little underhand of Nvidia. Who am I kidding, we shouldn’t really expect anything less!

To be fair I am not sure the other retailer get any profit from selling FE, and are simply just a storefront for nvidia.

is geforce experience even worth a damn? when I last used it some years ago, it just seemed like bloatware crap for noobs who don't know what graphics settings they should be using

What CPU's do you guys plan of running with these? Nvidia still have a problem with a CPU overhead in their drivers due to the way they do thread scheduling.

Despite all of the DLSS3 BS these things are pretty quick in native raster and if you haven't got the latest and greatest from team Red or Blue you may find yourselves CPU limited.
Running the 5800x3D with mine. If the cpu limits the card I will upgrade to the 7900/50x3D next year.

For anyone wondering, i have managed to get the 4090 gigabyte OC version running on 2 x PCIe Power cables on an old seasonic 850w m12II
its all i have for the moment, 2 PCI cables with 2 connectors daisy chained on each, 1 x 6 pin to the mobo, the remaining 3 x 8 pin connectors into the GPU power adapter.
I am only able to get around 85 - 90% TDP out of the card before it gets perfcapped for vrel (voltage reliability) so this is by no means ideal..... but at least it will work until i can secure a new PSU. and the performance is still out of this world at 4k and in VR
