NVIDIA 4000 Series

It definitely looks like we have a scalping issue in this country more so than most. Unfortunately, we seem to have loads of grubby little maggots who want to make something for nothing at the expense of others.

If they sold their GPUs at a reasonable price they would sell more and make more profit.

They are pricing the 4000 class GPUs like we are in a mining boom.

Its their fault.

I’m cognisant that this is a thread about graphics cards, on a forum operated by a hardware retailer – so apologies in advance if microeconomics isn’t of interest – but profit maximisation strategies differ depending on the degree of product differentiation and availability of substitutes. If you’re operating a monopoly your output relative to demand is much lower than in a duopoly, oligopoly or competitive market (in that order). There’s also a concept called price discrimination (first degree, second degree etc.) that helps firms maximise profitability.

I’m guessing most people just want to express anger at graphics card prices, but just in case there is any genuine interest in the economics…

Some good slides from Warwick University on monopolistic and duopolistic profit maximisation:

A good article on price discrimination from the CFI

I sure hope Jensen sees me fighting his corner and sends me a 4090 FE (or just the opportunity to buy one!) and a leather jacket….

well they got it to melt....

After days and days testing and even deliberate sabotage of cables, yes they did. The fact that they found it so difficult to replicate bodes well for most users needing to use the cables.

As long as people ensure that the cable is connected properly it would appear that there’s not really much to worry about.

Not condoning the current 12VHPWR, it shouldn’t be so difficult to use safely, and the fact that there’s scope for people to not secure it correctly is definitely a failing in the design.

Here in Switzerland, all 4080's are still in stock. Looks like none have sold from the major retailers.

Will be very interesting to see what happens after 13th December. People have voted with their wallets, this might force Nvidia to drop the price of the 4080 just to shift them.

Here's hoping that happens - but they would have to drop the prices of their entire 30xx range also (which would be fine by me!!)

A fix for the black screen issue on the 4080/4080 FE , I have this issue so very happy they decided to pull their finger out and release to publicly

Let us know how you get on with it.

"Change boot mode from UEFI to Legacy/CSM
Boot using an alternate graphics source (secondary card or integrated graphics)"

So those who don't have second card or integrated graphics can do one....

I don't have a second card or igpu but can get into windows no problem, the issue this solves is a black screen at the initial boot up screen. Not sure why they would put that as even without a driver installed I still get basic vga once in windows.

So GN is saying the failures seem down to badly inserted connector, user error. Even the taught cables needs the connector not to be properly inserted.

Makes sense it’s largely user error as the only posts I saw about cable failures were on the Reddit Nvidia site and the majority of the people posting on there seem clueless.

Do you have a FE card or partner card.
I have the issue when using DP only, but would be good to go back to that rather than using HDMI.
I have the FE card mate , as it also says partner card ( AIB ) might as well give it a try as it will do a check to make sure its compatible before going ahead :)
