just my two pence but why pre order at dearer price now and say in two weeks(if it takes that long to arrive due to stock ) loads come in stock while your waiting for your pre ordered one and they drop by 20-30 quid youve effectly paid the extra for nothing.

Definitely looks like a return to the dark old days of paper launches then, somewhat reminiscent of the 6800u fiasco. Part of me wonders why NV launched so early with little stock available, it's not like ATI had something coming out and they needed to steal their thunder.
Maybe if you have people thinking "is this card as good as I've heard?" and they look at all the usual suspects for online shops and find it sold out everywhere, they'll assume it is and pre-order it...

Its not a paper launch, that was 6800Ultra released back in April 2004 and finally getting one of my chosen brands in Nov 2004 (joke), and wont happen again, and ATI did the exact same there top card (think it was X800XTPE or such) was also golddust.

Its just they had to use another Vendor to make them as they launched early and their normal Vendor was busy with other orders.

Yep I've already acknowledged in the past that it was the same thing with the x800XT.

While things won't be as bad as back in 2004, in my view it's still not a proper hard launch IMO if most etailers and brands are still suffering major stock shortages a couple of weeks after the official release date. Irrespective of what the reason for that shortage is.

The good news is that with all the profiteering going on from etailers due to stock shortages, there is scope for a price drop in the coming months once the supply problem is resolved.

Spot on

Thanks for the update. I don't plan on ordering 8800GT SLi or a larger monitor until the 8800GT's availability improves. Meh, seems to be good timing in the end, as Crysis is due to be released next week on Friday if I'm not mistaken. :p

OcUK - 1000+ units on the 512MB due in approx 2 weeks, this is a good one to pre-order and you should get one soon.

Just out of curiosity if you didn't get restocked etc, how long would you expect till you sold out that batch?

(not intrested got my ultra :p)
just wondered the sort of volume ocuk ships, as I've seen ocuk recommended in pc gamer in a few articals and letter replies, but i always got the impression of ocuk as a small sort of business.

I wonder if any of the "I'm gonna sell my GTS before it plummets in value" brigade have got burned and left without a decent card for a couple of weeks?
I sold my GTS but haven't been "burned" at all. My plan was always to wait until news of the revised GTS filters through, which won't be for another week or more yet. If it turns out not to be worth the wait then I'll get a GT, which should be available by then, otherwise I'll have to decide whether to wait longer for a GTS.

I don’t know of anywhere else on the net, where the customer would receive such invaluable personal advice on orders. I must say fantastic service OcUK

The question in my head right now is this. Would it be wiser to pre order the BFG OC or the OC2 (my head tells me the OC, as I would imagine people are going for the OC2 in pre-order droves)

Always something! ;)

My whole new system is on hold over this card it better be worth it :( I've had the EVGA superclocked version of it preordered now for almost two weeks, I asked OcUK whether I should change to a BFG but they said my cEVGA ard should be sent out with the first batch that comes in. I really hope so I'm going mad :(

Thanks for the update. I've just built a new computer and was very close to ordering a 8800GTX when the GT was released, and pre-ordered the EVGA Crysis version. With these release dates I called OcUK today changed my order for the BFG OC2 instead, cheers.

I had the same problem last week! When I enquired as to why my order (which I'd paid for next day delivery) was still listed as "in warehouse queue" 2days later, I was told it was down to the Asus 8800GT not being available(although when I placed my order it had an ETA of the 8/11). So I requested the card be removed from my order & the rest sent. Luckily a quick search about the net brought me a bit of luck when I found another well known E-tailer had 44 BFG oc 8800GT's in stock!! ordered at 18.00 last thursday received 08.45 the next morning!! Plus on checking their stock 24hrs later they'd all gone! Very happy with the rest of my new rig ordered from Ocuk by the way! :D

Bring on Crysis!
