NVIDIA 8800 GTS Series - Which One To Choose?

I've had numerous Sapphire cards and they have always performed very well and overclocked nicely. Is it worth spending an extra £20 for a Sapphire? Probably not :) The 3870 will be a nice performing card and they are such good vfm imo, so I'd maximise the vfm and go for the Powercolour :)

3850 or 3870 are ample for 1680x1050. Anything more is a waste of money. I just sold an 8800gtx because it was not noticeably better than my 3850 at that resolution.

i am using a 3850pro on 1680x1050 and it plays everything wonderfully...max details 8xAA.....barring crapsis of course.

Also I don't know why people keep saying the 8800GTS is just an 8800GT with higher clocks....it's got 16 extra shaders as well, which gives a nice boost.

Personally, I'd just go for an 8800GT....though the 3870XT at 111 quid is darned good deal.

Get the BFG 8800GT OC or OC2

I have the OC and it plays all my games on max settings at 1280 by 1240 (max screen resolution) including Crysis,Cod4 and CoH. with a good and in some cases very good FPS.

Although ive never used an 8800GTS myself, i have heard some good things about the newer ones.

so up to you :)

Yeah the BFG seems like a good choice.

Someone just did an RMA recently on their BFG 79xx or something and got back an 8800 gts 320mb, so BFG seem to have a good RMA service. ( In wales if I remember correctly)

Okay thats settled then.

I suppose I'd better quickly ask if its compatible with my motherboard.

I've got a Gigabyte DS4 but it's about a year old so I'm not sure if its exactly the same as the one on this site. I think if I remember, it was Rev 2.0 if that makes sense.

I notice from your sig that you've got a GTS.

Are you happy with it?

My system is a year old now and I get the feeling that it might hold the 3870x2 back from it's full potential. I know this might also be true of the GTS but I'm not sure it's really worth getting the very best card on the market unless you have the system to back it up. Is there any truth in this, or will the card still be far superior to the GTS?
