NVIDIA 8800 GTS Series - Which One To Choose?

CPU will not be a limiting factor if your system is OCed to about 3.0+ (very easy OC for your system)

Yes am happy with my GTS, fact it was a free upgrade helps.
RMAed on old 8800 640 GTS & received a 512GTS as replacement, otherwise I would have bought a GeCube for myself.

You have been given the answer a few time now.

Well.

I've been given a couple of answers a couple of times.

1. The 3870 XT is far better value than the GTS so get that.
2. The GTS isn't worth it. Just buy a GT for £50 less.
3. The GTS is worth it because adding a Accelero cooler to the GT pretty much cancels out any savings plus the GTS has extra shaders.
4. If I am planning to get a GTS, I may as well get a 3870x2 for £30 more.

they will all work on your mobo.

All depends what monitor you have and how much you are willing to spend tbh. At 1680x1050 I wouldn't go anything lower than 3850pro 512 or 9600GT 512Mb.

AFAIK 3850pro 512 < 9600GT < 3870XT < 8800GT 512 < 8800GTS 512.

As said I'd you'd be very happy with the GT especially at the price they're selling now. I wouldn't go for the overclocked GT version, money is better spent towards a GTS.

GTX is better... most of the times.

3870XT/3850512 offer the better value IMO (9600GT offers good value too)

This is the order that i qould bother with the cards at the current prices.

3850 512
9600 GT = 3870XT (Get the cheapest one)
8800 GT (GTS is NOT worth it)
8800 GTX/3870X2 (I prefer single cards so GTX is my choice)

Unless you plan to get a 1900x1200 and above monitor go for the GT or lower

I'll make it simple for you:)

8800 GT sub 150 Thats it in this range
X3870 XT @ 117 (get the GT instead)

GTS is not worth it over the GT in any circumstance.

At above 230 the X2

Thats all you need to know.

Why is that? Do you have a link to some benchmarks between the two cards?

I'm still leaning towards the GTS and I've seen benchmarks and it outperforms the GT every time (except in Counter Strike at certain resolutions (which I couldn't care less about))

Plus it has better cooling.

The difference in price is also minimal. The GTS I will probably get is £191 and the GT I would get is £182.

If you decided already buy it and dont look back... You have heard the advice people gave you and yet you seem to ignore them...

Buy a card and play your games

If the GT and the GTS were both the same price, which one would you choose?

I wouldnt buy a GT priced as high as a GTS. IMO its not worth it, simple as that. Get the Leadtek or the PNY one. Below that you will go for 3870XT or 9600GT and below that a HD3850PRO.

If you are in desperate need of getting rid of your money buy either an X2 or a GTX
