A whole process node reduction so I am expecting these to be more than just a small iteration.

Definitely more RT performance. i think that's a given considering AMD will have it and the consoles.

thats what im hoping a 3070 with 2080ti performance but improved ray tracing, will be a nicer 1440P card hopefully. just hope its not silly money though. and also 2nd gen tensor cores as well so hopefully even more bang for the buck but again who knows what the actual cards will be and if amd push out another middle of the road wet fart nvidia may just move the stack again and bugger us all.

The 20 series also gave performance increases at the same price point.

The 2070 has a performance increase at the same launch price point compared to the 1080, The 2080 was faster than the 1080Ti and launched at the same price. Each of these was not only about 10% performance boost but included RTX and a whole bunch of machine learning advances at the same pricepoint.

If you take the Super variants into account it's better again.

I most likely order a 2080ti tomorrow I can see it being many months before you can get your hands on a 3080ti

At the moment I have a GTX 1080 plus a 3440x1440 100hz monitor and there no way my GTX 1080 is fast enough (was seeing around 35fps in Tomb raider last night )

Hmm I would not do that, try and get a cheap 1080Ti partly funded by your 1080 even then not ideal to do at this stage.

Problem is that I see spending £400 to £500 on buying a 1080ti or 2070s is a waste of money as there still not fast enough for 3440x1440 and would be such a small performance increase over my GTX 1080

Plus I also play games on my 4k OLED

IMO 4K is not here yet (some will no doubt get defensive), either play it @1440p or lower some settings 1 notch.

Trouble is I look at it that I spend 1000's on my Gaming PC so that I can play games at max detail levels
If people want to play games at lower detail settings then they be far better off with a game console

TBH your 1080 was never a 4k GPU esp. at the settings you want in modern games, I get your outlook though, it is the reason I had a 1080Ti (fan acted up or would still be on it) and now a Titan Xp (2017) but I am a more sensible/attainable 1440p.

I doubt every much people "want" to play at lower settings but more are forced into it when priced out by nvidia. You don't need to have a top spec PC to enjoy PC gaming if you did then only an elite few would bother.

I also game at 1440p but 144hz. When I upgraded my rig 12 months ago I went with a 1070 Ti as a temporary solution because of the poor value of the 2000 series. I have looked at the benchmarks for the 2080 Ti and despite being up to 95% faster than my current card, it still doesn’t offer the performance increase I need to run games at max settings, max resolution and max FPS. This means I have no choice but to wait for something faster again, and that will probably be the 3080 or 3080 Ti.

Do it, people that say 4k isn't there yet, I have this simple argument

There are people that play at 1080p and 1440p at medium/high settings to get 60fps or more and it's "there" why can't the same be said for just high to ultra mixed settings at 4k?
There seems to be this thing that if you are gaming at 4k without everything on full then some how it's not ready.... Makes no sense
I play all my games at 4k and never see below 60fps on my 2080ti

Hell I even play some games at 5k or 8k maxed or there abouts it depends on the game

wouldnt be surprised to see gen 2 rt cores double the performance over gen 1, shrinking their node and a improvement in overall ipc to boot. which would make ray tracing a lot more user friendly on lower cards, but again depends how many rt cores they pack on new cards, as iv said on this thread imagine a 3070 coming (should be 2080ti perf) but with better ray tracing, the thing is would nvidia do this or just match the 2080ti's performance totally and gimp the cards raytracing to just match the 2080ti's rather than allowing it to surpass it.

im also expecting double RTX performance. Should be easy with the node shrink. RT scaled far better than rasterization
