NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Ah, I have a 980. 2070 super is tempting....but I should leave it.

I hummed and hawed about buying a 2070S (I also have a 1070) but ultimately came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth it.

As mentioned, the ray tracing isn't strong in the 2 series, more of an introduction to the tech.

And the 1070 still performs strongly enough to allow me to wait and see what 2020 brings.

Though all I really play at the moment is The Division which runs fine on a 1070 - if it wasn't for G-Sync I'd have probably upgraded to Turing :( 1070 just about holds on with the help of G-Sync with settings turned up and for faster paced games I tend to turn stuff down for the least cluttered visuals anyhow.

You choose.... Wisely imho.

6 months from now there will be a new range on offer, they won't be cheap but at least you'll get the generational performance bump for your $$$

2000 series was a filler, it was the alternative to Volta dressed up in marketing

I really really want to upgrade from my 980Ti....but the market competition is awful value still :(.

3080ti will be a beast for you then, the 2080ti should already be double the performance and then probably another 50%+ on top of that so a 3080ti would be approaching 3 times faster than a single 980ti

I would wait to be honest. The 2000 series is old hat now. I reckon we are over the 50% mark for it's shelf life.

It's nearly Nov and 2020. Cyber Punk arrives in April, next gen consoles next year as well. The 3000 series can't be that far away. Before next summer is my expectation and hope.

April - July

He could also be paying 3x as much as the 980ti cost originally.. will be interesting to see if Nvidia lowers pricing like they did with Maxwell

how much was the 980ti?

we know the 3080ti will be cheaper than the 2080ti from the leaks so only way it can be 3 times more expensive would be of the 980ti cost $300

Even at £900, I wouldn't touch it (3080ti). I can see me holding off to the point where the 4050 is an upgrade to my 1080ti at a price I could accept to pay. By that point, I'll probably be investing my time in something else.

Nvidia need to accept the damage they are doing to their brand, and get the top tier price back to sub £700 levels. If not, they'll cannibalise their own sales to the point that no one pays any attention to them.

Alternatives are available. :)

Yep. £900 is too much. £700 max.

The last Nvidia card I bought new was a gtx 1080, it was £391 from OC. I sold it later and bought a second hand 1080 ti for £470 which is the most I’ve ever paid for a card.
Ampere 3080 (or ti) would be my next upgrade IF the price is no more than £750. Anything more than this is just out of the question.

Similarly, I bought 2 new 980Tis for just under £1200 from OCuk. Seems like the enthusiast wish list, without being too unrealistic / in-keeping with previous gen improvements, would be:

- 30% performance improvement over last gen per tier
- less fuss over phantom technologies such as RTX
- HDMI 2.1
- A price point that isn't prohibitive or gougey, I assume sub £800 for a Ti level card.

That's my list anyway. Now that I've typed it, it looks totally unrealistic and i suspect I'll have to roll over on one or two of those points if i can bring myself to invest.

Was really disappointed with both the 10 and 20 series offerings, so i'm not holding my breath.

I paid £1060 for 2 cards 2 weeks after release (19/06/2015). Does kinda show how silly 2080ti pricing sis even if you take the 20% lost of valve of GBP to USD since then.
