NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I paid £1060 for 2 cards 2 weeks after release (19/06/2015). Does kinda show how silly 2080ti pricing sis even if you take the 20% lost of valve of GBP to USD since then.

Then a 3080ti looks like it will be awesome value coming from a single 980ti.
So 980ti was 500 pounds, and if the 3080ti is 800 to 900 pounds for 300% more performance thats great

RTX 3080 Ti won't be at 300% of the performance of GTX 980 Ti, or 200% faster.
RTX 2080 Ti is already ~110% faster than GTX 980 Ti, and no way RTX 3080 Ti will be 90% faster than RTX 2080 Ti.

That is technically not possible in 2020.

10 series was a great upgrade, while 20 series was more a tech demo. So I hope 30 series will wake rtx really usable and spread.

Ps I'm cirious to see AMD's own rt, now that it's sure it it coming to consoles.

I hope they ditch RTX and release cards with decent performance improvements at a reasonable price!

So many people have been suckered in by RTX. It just isnt that good in modern titles (hence why everyone showcases it in minecraft and quake... Because its only old games it makes a noticable difference!

where as I hope they boost the RTX performance significantly. We would still be using sprites and thinking the Earth was flat if you had your way :D

Yes let's ditch progress. Naaaaat (Borat voice)

I imagine in 3-5 years globally illuminated games with ray tracing will be amazing looking.

Everything has to start somewhere.

I don't know to get into two series while my gtx 1080 has 'some' value. If I skip a gen changing cards is then relatively speaking more expensive.

Stop gap wise it's a cheap 2070s on black Friday or a 2080s as am impressed when that card is overclocked, at least where rasterisation perf is concerned it finally distances from the 1080Ti.

I think 2021 and beyond for DXR ubiquity and cards that can handle it reliably. It's still in early adopter/taster phase.

Nobody was suckered in by RTX, or at least I’ve never come across anyone that was.

People bought 20## series cards for their grunt, not RTX.

Just because you say it often, @beany_bot , it doesn’t make it true. :p

Depends on Brexit. The race is on, Ampere/Brexit, which will happen first?! :D

I order an Ampere 3 years ago not quite knowing what I would get as I wasn't happy with my current well performing Maxwell card but everyone from the retailer to the delivery company keep messing me about and want to cancel the order :( Whats the point of ordering something if you can't get it delivered.

would GPU prices go up considering they are often made in far east Taiwan etc would Brexit actually affect trade with them?

It seems that with how many of the would-be flagship RTX titles got delayed recently (just today WD:L got delayed too) waiting for Ampere was the right call after all.

That's not how maths works, to be 200% faster than a 980Ti it would just need to be another 90% of a 980Ti. That would be around 40-45% on top of a 2080Ti.
