NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Nvidia need tobe careful with their new cards pricing I can see a lot of people ditching pcs for ps5s and xboxs if pc prices remain high.

They don't need to be careful at all, even in a recession there would be plenty of middle and upper class buyers who don't care about the cost.

People who like playing using a keyboard and mouse and enjoy the customisation aren't going to ditch their PC for a console with all their limitations. Shooting and strategy games are awful on them imo.

hmm i guess the rankings differ depending what tables you look at. The one I looked at showed 1080ti equal to 2080 and both far higher than 2070/5700xt. Then I found another which puts the 2070/5700xt very close to the 1080ti.
It’s very confusing it’s just not consistent site to site or table as you said.

This gets said time and time and time again over many many generations and nvidia's sales keep getting stronger and stronger and stronger. Zero truth in it.

Yup, said it many times, we'll buy Nvidia, at whatever price.

Look when they released the Titan, the first 1k card, they flew out, they couldn't believe how well they were selling, they couldn't make em fast enough.

If no one was buying the 2 series, their prices would sharp drop, but they've been out how long now ?, and what are they priced ?, yup, the exact same as upon release, in fact, they've even gone up now, so they are still selling, and still selling well.

If we didn't want to pay these prices their for cards, we wouldn't, we'd just leave them on the shelves, and piling up in warehouses just gathering dust, and then Nvidia would sharp drop them, its as simple as that, but we won't, we are happy with the pricing, and while we're happy to pay these prices, they'll continue to be these prices.

Nvidia are not the ones to blame here, we are.

Remember, the customer is always right!.

and a 7nm RDNA1 5700Xt only just about beats/reaches the performance per watt for 16nm 3 year old 1080ti or 12nm Turing chip (with a bigger die and more features).

So AMD have a long way to go still in that regard.

Current reports are 50% performance per watt improvement for RDNA2 over RDNA in gaming workloads.

From memory, 7nm wasn't a huge improvement in performance per watt over 12nm, rather it targeted tighter packed transistors, but I can't find a reference for this...

No doubt Ampere is going to be a huge leap as well! Excited to see what the results are!

May 14th isn't gonna be gaming Ampere news is it? It's gonna be server information.
That would be the safe bet, some info on the architecture with some rhetorical hype on how it’s x1000% faster than the last generation based on some niche cases that may or may not be relevant to consumer graphics. It will just fuel more focused speculation imho

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 and 3080 Coming Q3 2020 + Specs

The most interesting part is obviously the specs, where a 3070 could be close in performance to an RTX 2080 Ti.

Seems fake to me. That is a huge difference between the 3070 and 3080Ti. Unless they intend to price the 3070 at $399 or something to compete with what AMD are bringing and know there will be no competition for their 3080Ti which they will charge $1499 lol :p

Seems they have a lot more RT cores which I have always said the 3000 series would have :D

I was wondering same thing, seems weird that the 3080ti would be nearly double the 3080.

I would not be bothered if it turned out to be true. I mean with improved architecture also the RTX 3070 should easily keep up with or beat a 2080Ti so as long as it is priced right then I will be happy. They can charge whatever they want for the 3080Ti :D

I've been out of the loop for a while. How many RT cores would we need on current architecture to fully ray trace a modern game like BF5 at 4k? I'm guessing it would be in the tens of thousands?

Sounds about right, maybe even more. All depends on how good they get with the software and denoising from what I understand.

Way too early to expect stuff like that.
