NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I've shaved about 30 watts off my 200 Watt 5700XT and maintained its performance, perhaps even gained margin of error levels of performance.

I don't know about Turing GPU's but there is no way i'm turning a 200 Watt RDNA GPU into a 100 Watt GPU and only losing a few % performance.....

That is what has been so fun about Vega, I have shaved 100 watts off it from 300 on average to 200 on average and I've even gained performance due to the increased thermal headroom.

I recon we will get an official launch date in September, with cards being available around the time Cyberpunk comes out later that month. I will be ready to pull the trigger on a RTX 3070 as soon as it is available.

Hell, if they manage to price the 3080 right I may even get one of those, but doubtful. I just don’t see the point in paying 50% extra for only 20% extra performance which is typically what the difference in price for performance between the two cards is. Rather wait 18-24 months and upgrade to a RTX 4070.

You aren't interested in what the competition has to show? locking oneself into a future GPU now seems a bit "risky" to me with how little we know about how the final ranking of these new GPUs from both companies will be.

Not on this occasion no.

How have I locked myself? My last few GPUs have been AMD. Go click on the link on my sig to see my graphics card history. I just happened to have a G-sync monitor right now that I am very happy with and also fancy going RTX on this occasion. But won't do it if they price it silly. I highly doubt they will though.

End of the day all I am doing is stating my prefered next GPU based on current info/my prediction. Nothing is set in stone and with new info things can change very quickly.

Oh and I ideally need the GPU to be available in September for Cyberpunk.

I'm sure the GPU launches will be linked to Cyberpunk. Nvidia and AMD must be aware that's going to be a big deal and will sell a lot of hardware, especially for ray tracing. I expect them to launch just before or at the same time. Probably with the game bundled. Just how I can afford an upgrade, I'm haemorrhaging money revamping my whole garden at the moment. Got to make use of that furlough time ;)

Funny you say that, going get a scarifier soon and get started on mine. Though not sure I fancy spending much money on the garden at the moment. Might attempt to do it on the cheap with a scarifier and new seed and skip the fertiliser as my garden is not exactly small. Might attempt it with my front garden first as a tester :)

Yeah I recon the delay of the game may he partly been due to the new cards also. More money and dev time to Polish the game :)

Perhaps a poor choice of words on my part, what I meant was simply that you already seemed to have decided what to do which I found a bit curious as the real tangible information about performance for both brands is rather limited at this point. But I understand why you perhaps are leaning more towards Nvidia considering your choice of monitor. I'm interested in what both camps have to offer on an equal footing and reserve my preference for after the reviews, which is why I wouldn't want to limit my options due to a certain monitor. In the end, it's personal preference, neither approach is wrong IMHO :). I was not saying go AMD, this is not what I meant, as that would be an extremely silly thing to say at this time about hardware we no next to nothing about outside of rumors.

I'm fairly sure that Cyberpunk will be having Gameworks again. I think I've read that somewhere a long time ago. With that in mind, unless AMD is able to pull some amazing tricks, I'm fairly sure Cyberpunk will be a win for Nvidia no matter how the hardware will perform in other titles.

I know what you mean by to we decided to spend money to save money :) I think it would have cost at least double to get someone else to do it. Digging out steps, cutting up Azobe sleepers (very tough!), Putting in some retaining walls and a paved area (reclaimed granite setts). Luckily it's not a very big garden but amazing how much effort it takes to do :p

Hoping it is well polished and that ray tracing is well implemented. I'll hold off on a purchase until I see how Nvidia and AMD stack up. Hoping RDNA2 is competitive as that will benefit us all.

No problem.

Yea I get the feeling the game will do better on an nvidia card also. So many reasons why I am going green on this occasion. Would be surprised if AMD came out with a card that offers much better price for performance to be honest, but we will see. By the time my next upgrade comes after this one I would like to get a new monitor also that is both gsync and freesync, ideally an oled. But happy with this one for another couple of years.

Sounds a little like Jensen's "the more you buy the more you save" :p

I already have it in my steam library waiting to unlock. Got it for £35 :D

Yeah, I saw it on the launcher for fortnite for almost peanuts and now its full price again. Kinda sad I didn't pick it up then, but then again, I don't like epic games launcher or store.
Yeah, steam is the best launcher as far as I am concerned. It is the only launcher I have on my pc. I am happy that all these other alternatives exist though, as we don’t want steam to get complacent, but get more competitive.

I do have an origin account but that hardly ever gets installed, can’t even remember the last time it was. Apart from that I have battlenet launcher for Starcraft 2 which again has not been installed for a long time. Oh and the StarCitizen launcher which I have not bothered with in years and probably still won’t for many more at the rate they are going :p

The good thing about Steam is you never need to buy direct, at least I don’t unless it is on sale. So lots of choice and competition. Also it is easy getting steam vouchers cheaper when people sell it on members market or when they sell you their gift balance at a discount and gift you the game. Hence how I got Cyberpunk 2077 on the launcher of my choice at a decent price :)
