NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

Could that niggling feeling be because it has been mentioned several times on the last couple of pages?

Nvidia are a corporation and market leader whose primary goal is to make as much money as possible. Their aim is ultimately to price higher per unit AND sell more units.

''Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows. ''-David T. Wolf.

Ha, no the niggling feeling wasn't from posts in this thread.

When turing was initially launched and I saw the massive mark up from last gen, which stopped me from purchasing one, I thought I can't be the only one who isn't going to buy one because of the massive inflation of prices. Then more and more people posted the same, far in excess of anything seen in previous gen releases. That's what made me think in units sold, turing didn't do as well as maxwell, pascal etc.

And I will remain an idealist, because the way things are in the world, is depressing enough. If we don't fundamentally change as a species we will implode.

Of the many things that may cause humanity to implode, I don't think that Nvidia overcharging for GPU's is one of them.

As bad as COVID has been in many obvious regards, it has probably done a lot for people's creativity and self-reliance and maybe appreciating some of the simpler things in life. :)
It's also caused people to pay off debts, save and invest.

None of which are conducive to spend £1000+ of a GPU.

May as well just buy shares in Nvidia now i guess, since people gonna buy whatever they put out at any price anyway :p
Yes, buy Nvidia shares. Buy Nvidia GPU’s. Don’t forget that the more you buy the more you save, so buy some for your friends and family to. Life is great. It’s your money and it’s the way it’s meant to be spent :p:D

Eh? If what you write is true then how is being financially better off (no debts, more savings) is not conducive to spending money on a luxury purchase?

And a baby-boom expected in the New Year :D
...and a divorce boom. :D

I wasn't just on about GPU prices when I said I'll remain an idealist :P I meant it in the broadest sense! If we carry on a species obsessing over making money (which is basically a man made concept) above all else we are bound to fail as a species.

Do you have any stats for that? Because there seems to be plenty of money in it. Steam is growing apace, reaching a peak of over 20 million concurrent users, over 90 million monthly active accounts, and over a billion total accounts this year.

https://variety.com/2019/gaming/news/steam-one-billion-accounts-1203201159/

Of course, that's all PC gaming.
it's been posted already, the 90million accounts does not take into account people having multiple accounts(people who buy accounts with games on them) and hacker throw away accounts. And the 20million people logged in by the way. 6 million was the figure playing games most of which are older games. So you could say pc gaming from 10 years ago is growing :D but you don't need the latest and greatest tech to play 10 year old games.

See, some of you have got this all wrong..

many years ago I was married, my wife wanted to start a family but she said I would need to cut back on my pc component purchases..

now I’m in my 40’s with no sprogs and re married to my left hand..

3090 here I come :D
