NVIDIA ‘Ampere’ 8nm Graphics Cards

I doubt that's the naming reason lol. nvidia will know what they are up against. I reckon they have to go all out on this power as the nodes are poor and AMD "have the technologies" so they will want to make sure.

I won't be getting a 3090, most likely the 3080.

But with the 3090, I would have 2mm space before it hits my res. In my 700D. But that's just my layout. The case itself could take a card 1km in length.

Same, if I got one I’ll need to move the res on my 900D

I feel the same. Used to spent a lot of money buying top tier hardware, that pretty much stopped shortly after Nvidia launched the second Titan. I'd rather spent 500 pounds on a proper gas grill for my future garden than on some third or fourth tier GPU. The grill will give me more pleasure throughout its lifetime than an overpriced GPU will. Age has a tendency to change your priorities :D

The 3090 can double as a bbq grill... Spend more to save more :)

We don't know. One theory is Nvidia are worried about a TI or Titan being beaten by AMD card/s therefore new naming convention.
I think they changed the name to make people think there getting a higher tier card so less complaints when the price goes up.
The 2080ti had a £400-500 price hike from the 1080ti and nvidia took a lot of criticism so it would be hard for them to bring out a 3080ti and slap another £300 on but by calling it a 3090 will imply it's a better card than a 3080ti so making a price rise seem more justified.

Maybe they will recruit George foreman for ad campaign.

You have pretty much nailed Nvidias strategy

Very possibly, it's all a ruse to make us pay over the odds whichever way you cut it. Hopefully by January 2021 the air will be clear and competition will be back.

Oooof 310mm is just too big for my case. Looks like I’ll be picking a new case too! I’ve managed to squeeze an eatx x399 mobo & 360mm rad in my aging Corsair air 540 but I think this won’t like being crammed against a rad!

Price them too high and AMD and the consoles will make more sales.

We are lucky this gen the consoles are here to add a third player for more market competion.

Shame they aren't launching for a while tho after Nvidia launch.

My 2070 Super (air) is faster at DX12 than my Titan XP was and the Titan used to do 2130 all day. Benched better too in certain benches. My 2070 (water) is about 5% slower than the XP was (both OC).

It all depends what you are considering. Newer titles run better on the RTX 2070 S than the Titan XP too, but older DX11 stuff runs better on the Titan.

BTW if this rumour is true then good luck with water blocks etc. Unless of course this thing doesn't need major cooling.
