Ok, so I got a cheap GTX 770 and was messing about with it, cleaned it up blew the dust out and installed it. Colours seem colder than the ATI I am used to. Washed out even, the Radeon looks so much nicer? am I missing something here or has Nvidia always looked paler in comparison?
 
Make sure that full range RGB is enabled in the nVidia control panel.

Generally though side by side on a comparable setup the colours on nVidia cards seem a touch colder to me.
 
Increase the digital vibrance in Nvidia control panel to a level you're happy with. AMD has a better vibrance by default. I can't remember exactly where the option is but you'll find it. I'm on the journey home from work so I can't check.

Be wary when saying this sort of thing is better than something else as it is the sort of thing that is very much down to an individuals opinion.

Maybe you should have said AMD has higher vibrance by default rather than better.;)
 
Yea there is some colour differences between AMD and Nvidia. If you use them back to back you'll see it. Colours on my 480 do look richer than on my 970 (same monitor) by default, you notice it mainly with brightly coloured things like fire effects.

With some tweaking you could probably get the geforce card to look the same. I suspect it's more than just vibrance though and it can get frustrating trying to mess around with windows colour settings, I could never be arsed :P

If connected by HDMI you need to change one of the settings in the Nvidia control panel thing to 'full' or the colours have no depth and look washed out. I can't remember the option though as I'm not by my PC. Can never tell much difference between either brand though in terms of picture quality.
 
I had the same issue when I went from a 7950 to 1070. I also changed the rgb range to full rather than limited. From then the colours were identical. Why it isn't enabled by default I do not know!

I have done a fair bit of swapping brands and connecting all via DP and I couldn't see a difference between the 2 in truth (not sure why people insist there is unless they didn't have it set correctly). Not sure DVI over HDMI will give a better picture but so long as you have the settings set to "full range RGB", all should be good

Perhaps like you and others are insisting there isn't, maybe some just have better eyesight and can tell a difference.:)

Imo, AMD is more vivid, but as said before and every other time the dull Nv colour topic comes up, it's as simple as:

Short is, if you are connecting PC to TV use limited RGB and then calibrate, if to a PC monitor use full RGB and calibrate. Both brands however give exactly the same output quality and colour rendition.

No there really is no difference if set up correctly. The problem isn't that it's not possible. It is that it's not been set and thus people are comparing an incorrect Nvidia setting to a properly set AMD unit.

Nothing magical with peoples eyesight on this one.

That's because DisplayPort on both AMD and Nvidia uses Full RGB as default ;)

HDMI and DVI is a different story and even if the RGB range is set to full RGB on both colour can still be different depending on colour temp etc both brands choice is for default.

Its been years since I owned an Nvidia GPU so am not in the correct position to compare either on this front.

We all have are own taste in what is the correct colour, brightness/backlight everything
Hell some people even like to keep the shop floor presets on TVs for god sake LOL

They is a difference, That is why we are allowed to change these settings colour, Contrast, Brightness, temp

Because what is Red to me might not be Red to you!
What is dark black to me might not be Black to you!

And so on
