Hi

I'm undecided what GPU to get with

-Intel Core i5 3570K 3.40GHz @ 4.40GHz Ivybridge CPU

-Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

-Samsung Green 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel

I've been looking at a

-OcUK GeForce GTX 670 2048MB

that are £287 this week, is there any other card i should consider in this price range (this is tops i want to spend really)

I'll even consider a AMD card if its going to be better that the 670 for the same or less cash. I've no experience with model codes or specs for AMD cards as I've never owned one

Many Thanks

I just got a 2nd hand 570 card (£130) to go with my new 3570k build which has the same mb as you btw as well. ;)

Cant see any games really going to be slow at least i hope they dont. I generally keep shadows on medium for any game anyhow and dont use that advanced lighting habo or whatever it is which are the 2 big fps eaters.

What gpu are you using atm?

7970s are ahead of them both, a 7950 is behind a 670 a small amount at stock, but 7950s overclock very well. Any 7950 should overclock enough to match a 670 and for £50~ less, you've got yourself a really good deal there.

And any 660Ti,670,7870,7950 or 7970 should be good for 1920x1080. Personally did go for the 7950 option although I only switched from my initial choice of a 7870 when I decided to up the monitor to 2560x1440

What level is the 7970 and 7950's compared to a 670-2gig ?

I've no idea on AMD cards what so ever :(

Im running a 460gs at the moment

I forgot to say i used 2d and 3d at 1920x1080 at the moment

If by 3D you mean you use Nvidias 3dvision kit then I think you have no other option than an Nvidia card...

Can't a GTX670 be overclocked?

Please do not throw the Hardocp review.

Yea they can but even at stock clocks they boost really high so overclocking wont bring you the same gain as a 7950. A 7950 can oc around 40-50% which a gtx670 wont oc anywhere near this. I hear mixed reviews about there oc potential. Some barely go over stock and some can reach over 1300mhz core.

I'm being a bit silly, I know the 670 overclocks :), it's just that I've not seen any user benches which show the 7950 overclocked to contend with the 670. If there was a thread similar to the 7850 I may believe you all. :D

At the same clock speeds of a 7970 the 7950 is only 3-5% slower. It stands to reason that as the 7970 is faster than a gtx670 then the 7950 can match a gtx670 when both are overclocked. There's really not much between 7950/70 gtx670/680 when you overclock them to the full.
