nVidia G-Sync Q&A with Tom Peterson

amd users like to post a hell of a lot in Nvidia threads in this forum.

They are allowed to though, same as no one stops me posting in an AMD related thread. The key thing to remember is to just be respectful of other peoples opinions and not start to derail threads with the same old rhetoric.

Agreed!
I stayed on topic so yeah. I have given valid points. Not my fault am not falling over backwards for this.

I was being polite, did not mention the constant trolling/bating/derailing a good few of them do.

I do not enter solely amd threads as I have no interest in them.

You did yeah, but now you've justified why you don't want/like the tech (again :P) so don't need to state that again mate. I'm not having a go or even aiming this at you either, its just theres a lot of members on the forums who end up in a cyclical argument in each thread where their opinions clash and they never agree to disagree. Its what makes this sub forum have the reputation it does on arguments.

That is the comment you made, do not respond as if you were saying something else in the first place.

As far as trolling its all a matter of opinion depending on the person, i dont see any real trolling in that thread and neither this one.

AFAIK the lag introduced at 144hz is not just with CS:GO. ULMB is nice but after using GSYNC the tearing is very noticeable and @ 100 on the Swift it does not feel any snappier than GSYNC. At less than 100 it's simply too dark for BF4.

It's also worth noting that renderframesahead 1 and adjusting the pooling rate to 1000hz are necessary to get the most out of the Swift.

May I ask what other games you have noticed effected with lag?

2) Is wrong, he states if the FPS get low the monitor is still updated at 8ms (somewhere near the 1/2 way point of video).

Also means you benefit more from a 144HZ Panel+Gync than a 60HZ Panel+G-Sync even when the FPS drop well bellow Panels MAX Refresh Rate (57mins 05sec in the video).

EDIT : Video 40mins 15secs in for #2 above (uses 40FPS/40HZ as example).

That is also wrong. It updates in under 7ms. ;)

I watched this interview yesterday while it was live. He was saying one thing but the slides were showing another. This was while talking about the lag. I don't know if the amount of lag will make that much difference in reality. And if it only happens when the fps exceeds 144 then it wont affect two many games anyway.

My concern about this would be with 60hz gsync monitors, there are a lot of games that will go over 60fps!!

Just as an aside, A few people on this forum solved their input lag and tearing problems by limiting their FPS to one below the frame rate of the monitor. And other members of the forum said this was bad. Now people have to limit the Fps when connected to a Gsync monitor and that's ok?

And I am still waiting for a comparison between a 144hz gsync monitor and a 144hz gaming monitor. I will want the same thing when freesync comes out.

Its very interesting tech though. For me I would love to see what its like for watching movies.

Yes as 120HZ is 8ms 144HZ will be slight less, they both say this later on so...

I assume (and would have thought you would) they are talking roughly for the sake of the video not scientifically working with 16ms and 8ms for 60HZ and 120HZ.

Aside from the unnecessary digs at AMD towards the end of the G-Sync segment a very good watch. Great to have official confirmation that surround will be supported soon. Would love three of those Swifts to replace my current VE278Q's, would have to add another 780 as well though. Could be an expensive time for peoples wallets :D

Yes. But I like how Tom essentially said that if AMD's Adaptive Sync turns out to be 'better' than G-SYNC, Nvidia would reconsider what they are doing. :p Either way I am quite fond of variable refresh rates and think they are a good thing for gamers. :)
