Nvidia Gameworks at Gamescom 2015

From what i seen of the gameworks gimmicks in the latest batman they looked pretty overdone, the fog for example with the batarang taking chunks out of it? Wtf.

That is up to the game developers and ar directors.

No different to how most games seem to over do their special effects, ridiculous HDR, stupid DoF and nasty fake chromatic aberration, parallax mapping pushed to the extreme.

My biggest big bear is how most games manage to make everything look like shiny plastic, form rocks, to sand, to plants. yeah, specular highlights looks cool but i want realism, not shiny plastic plants in the jungle

What humbug is doing is exactly what game developers that use Gamesworks are doing, using middleware to reduce development cosst.

No, the tools are not there. How many libraries do you know that that can do state of the art facial animation or fluid dynamics?

Do you want to games to cost $200 a pop to cover the additional development expenses, and end up Slower and buggier due to time constraints? Do you think a game developer should never use a game engine like Unreal 4, or Cryengine and every one should start coding form scratch?

The game is up to the developers, they are free to choose whatever middleware they want and integrate however they want.

I have made my points and think they are valid. This won't go anywhere so will agree to disagree for the moment.

So what if GameWorks effects have an impact on performance, it's a great driver of graphics technology both hardware and software. What's the point in having games running at 300fps? everybody would just buy low end GPU's and that would hurt the whole GPU industry and software development programmes such as GameWorks going forward.

Did NVidia use excessive amounts of tessellation sometimes? probably but then they have always had the hardware to back it up, if AMD owners hadn't allowed AMD to get away with driver cheats they would have been forced to improve their tessellation hardware instead of being stuck in 2012.

Your BS knows no limits, the option of limiting effects for the best performance of the hardware is not a cheat, no one is forced to lower the settings and by your logic any games that have varying levels of gfx options are also cheats,, everyone should be force to have every game run maxed out.

Huh?
Driver level optimisations that by default change what is rendered irregardless of graphic settings has always been considered a cheat? That doesn't suddenly make changing graphic settings a cheat.

Not that I agree with his constant bleating of the fact

The default is 64 which is the max used in any game thus far so has had no effect on the default rendering.

AMD optimized is a per game bases which AMD have to do themselves which they have not done for any game so you end up with 64.

Yes, which doesn't contradict what MMJ's said? It can be considered a cheat.

And you just bleated that 64 is the default (When it's not), AMD optimized may default to 64 for games it's not got a profile, (Like Witcher 3 when that came out, and why we could manually change for better performance) but that doesn't constitute x64 is the default.

I'll end this conversation here, I don't know what it is, but any discussion with you has me feeling like I'm talking to a talking wall.

As i have said there are no tessellation profiles, so the tessellation is 64 regardless, so its not cheating unless its having an effect which it is not.

So we will agree to disagree.
