No it's really not. 8GB should be standard for new cards.. It's 2015, 1440P / 4K need more vram. Jeezus some games at 1440P can use 6Gb already..

£50 more memory on it at the most, charge £300 more for the same piece of silicon that will perform the same as no game will come close to using 12GB.

Well my choice this year is clear now, 980ti + Gysnc 1440p 144hz, or 390X + Freesync 1440p 144hz...
Now to see which comes first and which delivers the best performance at those specs.
Fact is 12GB is not necessary, in fact it's just there to take away from the fact you're only getting 33% performance over an 980 for £900.
£500 6GB 980ti is where the smart money goes.
