NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, the flagship reinvented

Been keeping eye on FE, clicked on the 3090ti link and like everyone else, kind of shocked it's still in stock lol. Well maybe not surprised due to electric costs / mining at home being in the dumpster.

also the 4090 is coming in less than 6 months, even 3090 owners ain't that crazy to buy a 3090ti that will lose over half its value within a few months

i know a few people who sold their 3080 to buy a 3080ti but that was only because the value of the non lhr 3080 was sky high at the time and you could buy a 3080ti without spending any money but that's not the case now, you can't sell your 3090 and buy the Ti without putting in hundreds of pounds.

The 3090ti is going to move very few units: it's going to be beaten by mid range cards less than half its price within 6 months, mining is crap now, electricity is expensive and summer is coming and no wants the 500w heat - it's just a bad time to buy such a product.

MLId put out a stupid video today where he claimed 3090ti would be hard to find because of low stock, but he's wrong the 3099ti will be easy to find because no wants to buy it

There'll be a few but anyone with an iota of sense would steer clear, There's only 5 months to go before 4xxx which will likely come in at roughly the same MSRP's as the 3xxx series.

It does let Nvidia get people used to the idea of 450 watt cards which seems to be where the starting point for higher end 4000 is going to be.

I will be able to turn off the heating next winter and just game for few hours in shorts and a t shirt. :D

No real way of doing that with the power draw of cards these days, if you go aircooling then a larger heatsink is always going to be needed. Though i do think they've maxed out the size they can be with some of these cards

Yes if they keep the materials the same. You can likely use better quality or efficient heatsinks for example that could bring a 3.5 slot down to 2.5 is what I was inferring. Much like previous generations where you had the option of buying slim cards so they would fit into SFF units. This would be applying not to the top Ti sku they have just released, but down the stack like a 3060 shouldnt need to be so chunky.

finally the stock has sold out a few scalpers trying their luck on ebay as usual

well it say say sold out, but now back on sale, lol
Just got a notification from Discord and its back in stock, I got my refund notification email this morning so I guess all the people like me who checked if they could buy another FE and then cancelled have put them back into the stock system.

I guess one big difference to other FE cards is that the FE model isn't really any cheaper than the AIB models. Everyone wanted a 3080 FE not only because it's a good looking design, but also because for a good while it was approximately half the price of alternative models.

As well as the pricing and short lifespan of the product impacting demand in general.

So what are the differences between the FE 3090 and 3090 Ti

Same memory
Same cooler
Same Chip
Same almost everything

Wait Nvidia are charging an extra £480 for the Ti

They are having a laugh.

The biggest change is having double density VRAM modules. So only 12x2GB modules, all on the front (GPU) side of the card. This means much easier to cool. The VRAM is also faster. 3090 FE (and some AIB cards) really struggled to get the memory junction temps below 100DC due to inadequate backplate cooling for those modules.

£480 is pretty crazy for this change though :D

Slightly faster memory 19gbps on the 3090 vs 21gbps on the Ti, Few more CUDA cores, A lot more power draw, Worth it ? IMHO... No, This is a last minute cash grab from Nvidia before the 4000 series lands in 5 or so months.

No guarantee the 4000 series launches in 2022. That said, 3090ti is still a terrible card, 450W for 7% improvement on 3090 is just silly, especially this late in the game.

Scalpers on Fleabay already trying to flog the FE for 600-700 quid over MSRP when there's an abundance of stock at the moment elsewhere. I hope they sit on that site for months and rot before they end up having to get rid of them for less than MSRP in 6 months time.
