NVIDIA GTX 400 SERIES GRAPHICS CARD LAUNCH

So the 470 is Priced in line with the 5870 but is less powerful? What idiotic sales rep thought that up.

I expect we'll see price parity, or near enough, in the coming few months. Problem is, Fermi cards are inherently expensive to make and the supply isn't going to be great which will keep the price artificially inflated.

I very much doubt there is going to be any substantial price drops, which there will have to be to make this series worth it.

As said above these cards are friggen oven's so i really don't see why someone would pay £120 more for a card that will need water cooling in the coming months, especially considering the performance advantage of the 480 to the 5870 is marginal.

It really is a let down tbh.

Ok. . . so after all the waiting nvidia give us a card which isn't really any faster then a cheaper 5870, and because of the weak £ we have to pay some 30% more then US price???? I think nvidia have a bit of a lemon here! Over priced vs performance. I was really hoping the 480's would come in under £400, nearer £370. Even the EVGA superclocked works out at £355 $ to £ conversion, from the EVGA store as well!!!

EDIT plus i've heard AMD are cutting prices soon???? so say a £50 price cut on the 5970 makes it £500 vs £450 for a GTX480??? Or under £300 for a 5870?

It doesn't work like this. The US prices exclude 17.5% VAT we have to pay. It's customers responsibility to pay it, not retailers. On top of this price we pay actual 14% over the US RRP to OcUK which is not so tragic if you consider a fact that the cards are not available yet and their stock is potentially limited. With that said, I would not recommend any of these cars anyway.

And no, AMD isn't going to cut their pricing. There's no need to.

waited 3months for the 470 and now i am so ****ed at nvidia. i really am not going to buy nvidia again unless they fix their BS.

5850 vs 470 = -5 to +10 fps and still costs 110GBP more :O
(not to mention 97*C?? omg! and almost 280w)

epic fail.

What happened, did you ignore the internet for the last 3 months? it's not like we didnt know what the outcome would be. I think we all hoped they'd pull a rabbit out of the hat but they didn't, and really...we all knew they wouldnt.

Lol, I wonder if you can buy the Asus GTX 480 with Voltage tweak, crank the voltage and clock speeds in the Asus software as high as possible, run furmark with no additional cooling (switch of PC fans), wait for it to obviously die, and then RMA it for an ATI 5970 instead =D.

Seriously lolworthy thought, if anyone tries that though, they must be crazier than Asus and myself combined! (I start freaking out if my temps go over 90, cant imagine this card being any good for me).
