That pricing puts it about 1.7 - 2 times current price of 7970's
It isn't anywhere near 1.7 - 2 times the performance!
Just ordered the EVGA 780 - exciting times!
The 7970 is about 1.7 - 2 times the price of a 7850/7870 and isn't anywhere near 1.7 to 2 times the performance. Does that make the 7970 a bad buy also? That pricing puts it about 1.7 - 2 times current price of 7970's

The 7970 is 1/3 more expensive than the 7950 but isn't 1/3 faster. It doesn't work like that.
Good for you Sir and I look forward to seeing your results
£600 quid.. I'm out.
£550 minimum, £230 more expensive than a 7970, absolutely insane.
No chance here.
Even the 7970 was £400+ less than a year ago and all of these cards supply substantially less performance.
Way back in 2010 I purchased a launch day GTX 480 for £480. That was £1 for every bit of the "480" name. By contrast the GTX 780 only costs 70p for each part of it's name. That's much better value.
IMO the 780 is not too expensive when compared to the former top dogs of their generation. GTX 480 and GTX 680 both launched North of £450. Even the 7970 was £400+ less than a year ago and all of these cards supply substantially less performance. The 780 appears to be a very good alternative compared to the 7990, GTX 690, and Titan.
It's also cheaper than any launch day iPhone.
