You can change the LED to white without removing the cooler. Although, it's uncertain if the manufacturer would dismiss an RMA because of it. I know EVGA don't care.

Would be harsh if they did given it's such a simple mod. You're hardly ripping the guts out of the card or anything. Perhaps depends on what grounds you were RMA'ing it.
Guys you can do this and your warranty will be intact but not on the led failing.

They are all so amazed they are doing a 24hr gaming stint in silence as the rest of the family can sleep due to no crazy fan noises or strange buzzing sounds.

Still debating between this and an MSI 980 reference... About a hundred euros difference here in the Netherlands.
i hate having to make choices like that, i mean you could save 100 euros and be happy or mabe 6 months down the line you could be wishing you paid the extra for a tiny bit more performance.
i think i would go for the 970 and later if you need it get another for sli
