Nvidia GTX 980 Owners Thread

Just did a quick google search and it appears that removing the little plate reduces temps by 3-4degC and that then drops fan speed by around 400rpm. Will have to test it out this friday!

good man Kapp, I can see you have your priorities right, GPU's ahead of new carpet ;)

think you might be right :D blind this morning a lot going on in my life

looking good though Kaap, you reckon they'll be better than your Quadfire 290 setup? Quite intrigued by your reasoning for getting them as your on a 4k screen

Well, I would imagine having a 800Watt power draw to cool rather than 1.6 Gigawatts is appealing. Not sitting next to a jump jet ready for take-off also positive.

Two reasons

1. Place holders until the Maxwell Titans show up.

2. Benching fun as these cards are fantastic for that.

The thing about 4K (or anything else for that matter) is it is just an option, that does not make it the best for everything. Like everything else it is a case of using the right tool for the right job. I have just finished installing Win8.1 on this new PC which is supposed to be great for use with 4K and it looked rubbish. As I use a 32" screen everything was too big, so I have just finished making the text, windows, internet pages etc smaller like they appear in Win7 and now everything is fine. The reason I mention this is it is another case of finding the right tool for the job, bigger is not always better.

Something I figured out today that anyone upgrading to 4K/Win8.1 may find useful.

When running steam games some of them won't run in 4K all they will do is 1440p. This is caused by Win8.1 using oversized menus/boxes and is easy to fix by resizing them to 100%.

After giving up with two 780s that didnt clock at all and worked poorly together in sli, i deciced to cash in while they still hold some value on the bay and bought a zotac amp gtx 980 and ek water block. I will post my pics on saturday when it gets delivered. Also does anyone else have this card and if they do could you please tell me how they clock.

well after a week running 2 x EVGA 980 SC I have to say I'm really impressed with these cards

Running 1 on its own on a Swift was great but having 2 of them is just sweet!

While I'm wondering whether to "step up" from my 980 SC to the ACX 2.0 version, I'm also wondering if it's worth getting a Swift around Christmas. Where were you seeing the jump by going to SLI?
