NVidia Help Page + OC advice / Steps to take if your 6800 isn't working

I had a go with the nTune that came with my cards and they chucked the GT6800's up from 370mhz to 430mhz (I am using Artic Coolers though)
Seemed pretty stable.

I'm defo going to have a look at that link you posted though.

My main issues don't resolve around the Graphics Cards atm, just trying to get even a mild OC out of the CPU without it crashing :(

Whats the best drivers to use now? Sorry, but I have been out of the loop for a while and am pretty sure there have been better performing drivers that I dont know about right now.

Has anyone tried the 77.13 drivers? On the discussion board it looks like they are near enough the best drivers available. Would like to know before I start to play the latest games (GTA especially) :D

Should anyone get these errors use:

nvflash -4 -5 -6 xxxxxx.rom

the -4 switch force flashes the card.

Thanks for the info, successfully flashed my XFX 6800GT to the 4001100.rom bios.

I had same problem, I used -4 and it seemed to work for my Aopen 6800GT.
So I reinstalled the lastest Nvidia drivers (78.01), but my values are the same, 350/1000.

Any clues why the flash seemed successful but did'nt change a thing?

edit: tried again with latest nvflash.. this time it says "are u sure to change firmware? (y)es or (Q)uit" > I continue > then its says "blabla double fault at blabla".

This is great stuff... I'm completely new to this overclocking lark, but really getting into it :) - already OC my CPU by 400Mhz but haven't yet attempted my GPU.

Will I get a big perfomance advantage? I have an MSI 6800 Ultra - does anyone know if the DOT (Dynamic Overclocking Technology) feauture is any good on this card? I have it at level 1 (private) which gives me a slight performance boost but not much. If I go any higher than this then I get sparklies in 3D Mark 05 and artifacts in BF2 :(

Should I even bother with this feature or would I get much better results by trying the methods listed above.??????

oh and I forgot to mention that I have already swapped the stock HS/FAN for an Artic Colling one... I did this initially to reduce noise (man than stock fan was loud!) but from what I have been reading I should be able to get higher OC's with it as it's better at cooling than the Nvidea stock one?

Hi all. My system is a Athlon 64 3400 (754 pin with 1 gig of ram (unknown) with a OCUK 6800 GT. I have tried the above overclocking procedure. My memory only allows me to go to 1.18ghz before the test fails. Is this bad? My core is set at 380 with no problems yet. I have pushed no further than this yet as i am not sure what a safe running temperature is. I am currently running at 52c under load and around 48c at desktop. My 3d mark 03 score is 11521 with these settings? Do you think i can push more?

thanks in advance, john

Flashing AGP version

Are you meant to be able to flash the AGP version of 6800GT? coz i tried doing it using nvflash.. well i tried saving a backup of the bios already on it and it spat an error message like 'PCI BIOS not present' followed by 'this program can only be run under dos'. When i tried doing this i was running in safemode. any help would be greatly appriciated! :)

Just try overclocking the card and flashing it to those clock speeds - some GT cards like mine cant handle the 1.4V of the ultras - which is a shame as my 6800nu could manage 1.5V fine and ran at a faster core than my gt LOL.
So be carefull or you could just ruin your card, try a 1.4V flash first of a gt bios and see if its crashes or not/gets too hot or not.

hi

just curious if this could be a problem u guys might of heard of please ?

Whn comp comes on i install drivers for card then it says restart so i do that, and whn gets pass windows logo monitor goes into standby.

After a few resets the comp gets to windows but then everything is in low 8bit resolution! so as soon as i put it in 32bit the monitor goes in standby sometimes i get black screen with white symbols all over and have to restart...same thing whn put card in other comp too

was fine a few week back tho.

Any help on this would be great please

Hi m8, sounds like your card is dead. You see without drivers the card operates in a very basic mode. As soon as the drivers are loaded all of the more complex functions of the card become active. Unfortunately if one of these key areas is damaged then the card will either not output a signal at all or restart the computer.

A few things to try before reaching for the wallet.

Download the latest "forceware" drivers from download.guru3d.com

Check the card is properly inserted into the motherboard slot.

Check the fan on the card is spinning.

Test the monitor on another computer if possible at high resoloution 1024x768 and above.

If possible try the GFX card on another computer.

In my personal opinion, as a guy who repairs computers daily for a living, id say the card is dead, maybe ressurectable by an enthusiast but for your purposes id reccommend a nice new one im afraid.

hmm...i've been o/clocking my gt but haen't paid any attention too the 2d/3d being the same...nor have i checked as too the fast writes being off...now my gt won't even load windows or turn on monitor..have i killed it??
