Are nvidia's new motherboards going to have official support for 1600mhz FSB's?

Are we likely to see them in a week or two's time?

I am looking at updating my 975 setup to X38 and would probably prefer having SLI option on an nvidia board but don't want to buy in to end of life hardware like the 680.

cheers

"The NVIDIA nForce 780i chipset has been reported for having issues with Intel's Penryn processors. The exact issues remain unknown but the chipset will be delayed an additional two months and will not expected until December. NordicHardware also reports that the nForce 780i might possibly be the same as the nForce 680i with an additional PCIe bridge chipset and identical performance. However, we all hope the 780i will be much more than its predecessor."

no matter how you slice it the 680 is old technology now.

I am very tempted by an X38 and may just go for it. Pity 780 is taking so long for them to bring to market. I am not interested in DDR3 with prices so high on DDR3 and so low on DDR2.

The 780i is unlikely to be out till jhanuary so i gota get a 680i as i need it for chrismas :(

:EDIT:

Ouch the 780i will never sell if intel and nvidia dont resolve their differences.

Intel will win. But at least this is helping ati get back on their feet with crossfire sales as no one will touch sli when the new cpus come out and they acnt overclock them on the 780i

Sound comment Bigdave m8,

But NV's marketing strategy releasing the new graphic cards before the board fuel the expectation and customers eagerness to purchase the board. The 680i motherboard is a prime example of this strategy so many problems with the board and they were aware but they released it. By using Bios updates to resolve the problems associated with the 680i.

personally i have never known so many Bios updates for a mother board as the 680i

Technically NV are still ahead in the G/C race cornering a large proportion of the market due to their strategy.

I suspect they will release the 780i mother board and a stream of Bios updates will follow to support the Yorkfield and Tri- sli just in the same manner as the 680i

maybe the 790i would be the better option over the 780i?

790i is DDR3 i beleive. And shh about the 680i im buying one in a few days. Your ment to say how great it is.

Would it be unreasonable to expect 3.5ghz on a 6600 GO on a new rev Evga board on air?

790i is DDR3 mate you are correct was searching my posts. testing results and link were posted on the forum with the new asus DRR3 mother board and dominator DDR3 overclock acheived on air was 4.7Ghz at 1.22v with a wolfdale core.

I cant find the forum link in my subscriptions, and i posted in that link (Grrrr)

(maybe some one will re-post the link in this thread. The test review also had a picture of the DFI motherboard. The actual test was with the Asus)

With the EVGA yes it is possible to even reach 3.6. Personally id put the money aside and really watch the ride.

From the evidence i have seen and all the reading i have done truthfully the 780i is a no go area for me.

Regarding the 680is Fed up with continual RMA's. Bios updates that then restrict your over clock. Motherboard borking the memory. FSB full of holes.

Put your money aside mate there are bigger and better and its not the 680i or the 780i i truly believe the 790i's will be carrying the overclocking swing. that is my personal opinion.
