Nvidia Is Happy With The Performance Of Fermi

Fermi isn't actually delayed or late... aslong as it comes out March 2010 as that was the original target... it was just ATI catching them on the hop and beating them to the market with DX11 hardware thats caught them out. If it wasn't for the manufacturing issues they'd have actually been ahead of target. Pretty much no one at nVidia expected the 5800.

No it means the majority of people are perfectly happy with not upgrading their systems and are even content with integrated graphics.

The majority of people get a new graphics card when they buy a new system it would appear from the survey. I believe thats where the majority of sales in graphics are
, from fresh built systems.

In a year perhaps you might see lots of systems with 5*** cards if they are popular.

Spot as most of the time when im asked by the avg joe they don't know what gfx chip/card is in there computer & as soon as the GPU power becomes an issue they only think of buying a whole new PC as they don't know that the slowness on some things is down to the GPU & not the rest of the setup & that a new gfx card could be put in.

Don't I know it... it is a bit late now that ATI have a next gen card out... but the delayed thing has become something of a misconception... as nVidia have been talking about a release of approx. March for more than 6 months.

So you're saying it was there plan to be this late?
I don't think so lol.

nVidia have been planning a release around the end of Q1 2010 for Fermi for quite a long time... they didn't expect ATI to have a DX11 card out in 2009.

So all this talk of fermi being "delayed" or "late" is nonsense... unless they can't make Q1 2010. If it wasn't for the manufacturing issues they'd have been ahead of target.

It seems you know something that the rest of the whole internet did not know. In all the articles i have read not once have i read that nvidia were planning a march 2010 release date until recently. This is also the first time that i remember you saying that late q1 2010 was always planned. In all your other posts did you just forget this piece of information until now. i don't believe that nvidia never knew anything about the 58xx series cards either as we have known for a good while before there release that they were coming and also the timeline when they were going to be released.

I've been saying it since atleast April 09.

Infact I even mentioned the May 2010 possible delay... which drunkenmaster will prolly be able to confirm was only told to their closer business partners at the time.

I just find it really hard to swallow that nvidia never had a clue about when ati were planning to bring the 58xx series to the market. The thing is we have all heard that the 5 series would have been released earlier if tsmc had not screwed the 40nm process up also. There are also rumors that the 68xx series which is supposed to be an all new architecture is arriving sometime next year also. So for nvidia to be thinking of releasing in march 2010 seems like madness.

Yeah your right about the first bit they knew something about it... saying they didn't have a clue is going a bit far... but they really weren't prepared for it either. I think there was somewhat of a head in sand attitude.

They honestly didn't (appear to) think ATI would have a significant release out before Q1 2010 back along.

EDIT: To elaborate on this... originally nVidia planned to have a 200 series refresh around Sept. 09 with DX10.1 support on either 45 or 40nm I think under the 212 core, with a high end part at 480sp and a GX2 part at 2x 384sp to tide things over until their DX11 cards - which is why Fermi was chalked up for Q1 2010. When it became apparent ATI was going to beat them to DX11 they abandoned this and you just have the cut down 220 and 240 cards instead which are rapidly being rebranded under the 300 series now. As you can probably imagine trying to sell a high end 480sp DX10.1 part now wouldn't exactly go down too well... probably the manufacturing issues with the 40nm process also had something to do with why this never came to be.

Anyhow the point being... its a misconception that Fermi being released around March 2010 is it being late or delayed, its just relative to the market changes in the mean time.

So comparing it to the 2900 which was late and delayed its liable to lead to erroneous conclusions.

I don't understand all the hate for Nvidia of late, I try not to post too much in the video card section of this forum because of all the petty bickering that goes on.

But I will just add, where were all these Nvidia haters for the past few years before the latest 5*** series cards from ATi came along?

People seem quick to forget the likes of the 8800GTX which was quite a considerable step up from anything previous,

and then the very affordable 8800 GT which brought cheap high res gaming to the masses.

Admitedly Nvidia are now slightly on the back foot, but lets face it they were on top for nearly 3 years before ATi finally got their arse into gear.

I'm intrigued to see if the anti-nvidiots are so cocky when Fermi is eventually released ;)

Because this forum has been mostly over-run by militant ATI fanboys most of whom are comically in denial about being such.

Unfortunatly its driven away the knowledgeable people who used to make this forum so interesting 3-4 years ago.

You're joking right?

The way that nVidia fanboys are allowed to run around trolling as much as they like is what's pulling the forum down the drain.

Of course, if you call them on it, "it's not our fault! this place is pro-ATI!". /sigh :(
