Nvidia making GameWorks Source Code Publicly available

It's not open source. The license specifically states that they can revoke your license at any time. Thus there is no point to touching the code, only looking at it. With the wording the way it is, it is folly to touch the code given they can yank the leash at any time.

If thats true it looks a little dangerous.
You could spend years developing a game with Nvidia's open source code and suddenly they turn and say "nah... we changed our mind, you can't use any of it now"

ppl are puting words in nvidia's mouth, they never said it was open source, although they announced it in a way that make it look like it's the same thing as gpuopen, so ppl link this to that and you get this open source confusion
knowing nvidia, that was probably on purpose :D, ppl who doesnt know better live with the misconception

Ding ding ding, we have a winner!

And?

You expect any company to not protect their interests with such clauses? Almost all business, contracts, agreements etc etc will reserve termination and other rights.

Lmao. That's the whole point. It is not open, but they are giving that impression that it is, when in reality they can yank it anytime. Logically this means no one would touch the code. lol, you never read the verbage on an actual open source disclaimer have you?

Except, nVidia are not making it open source. They are making the source code publicly available. Big difference.

What are you whining about exactly? Where has it been stated that GameWorks Libraries are being made OPEN source rather than source code being publicly available? It was overclock3d.net drawing comparisons with AMD's offerings, not nVidia. Or are you all jumping on Roy the Numpty's tweets trying to score cheap points?

So now tedious dullards cant cry about not being able to see the source, we are going to have crying about the license.

Amazing.

Which has nothing to do with this, but carry on.

It has everything to do with this. The License is completely standard, of course Nvidia have the right to terminate the license agreement. If a developer breaks the licensing rules then of course Nvidia will want to terminate the license, it would make the entire license pointless if the developer could do whatever they wanted with no repercussions.

Gamesworks isn't being made license free or under any kind of freeware license, it is a propriety license that lets developers view and modify the source code to their hearts content and mitigate any claims that it is a black box they can't optimize against. Developers can modify as they wish and pass on the modification to other developers as well.

Nvidia is just maintaining the IP ownership of the source code, which is perfectly understandable.

Nvidia never claimed it is open source, it is explicitly not!

From the developer's perspective there is basicaly no difference in usage so it is fairly irrelevant
